Russia's new culture policy a weapon against West

Moscow (AFP) - The Kremlin is preparing a new culture policy for Russia focusing on its distinctive civilisation and traditional values, which observers say has political ends amid Moscow's standoff with the West.

At the end of four hours of questions Thursday in his annual call-in, President Vladimir Putin waxed philosophical on what it means to be Russian.

I don't think you're an idiot . . . you are a hypocrite. And the ironic thing about it is that you accuse others of doing what you do yourself.

Just recently, you made a comment about being unsusceptible to propaganda, but your post contained two or three examples of the same. Just so happened that it fit your bias.

Point them out and lets discuss them. I just got done saying we are being fed crap by both sides. If that;s the case, and it is, How am I a hypocrite? I don’t believe ANYTHING coming out of there that I don’t look into to the best of my ability and or base off things I already know to be factual..

Say for instance, the State Department who have a long history with Obama of interfering with countries internal affairs when it serves no end but Obamas. Say Uganda and Honduras.

Now if you think we didn’t instigate this mess that’s fine. If you say we were blameless I do not know what to tell you.

Can I be wrong? Sure. Wouldn’t be the first time. But please don’t try and make me believe the crap like Vlad is Hitler unless you produce a few million dead bodies to back it up.

And considering all the accusations your ‘comrades’ have hurled at anyone not following your “I hate the shirtless one” rhetoric, I don’t think you are the ideal judge of anyones’ hypocrisy.

No

Well... the other side says there’s a “Republican War on Women”.

I say there’s a “Democrat War On Christianity” and a “Democrat War On America and American Values”.

American conservative morality is allowing people freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom to own a gun. If morality becomes you have to say what I tell you to say and you have to believe what I believe, it is now a totalitarian system.

A free nation will be moral as long as it is free without a need for a top down moral decree. For hundreds of years the US remained moral despite being a free nation. A totalitarian nation with a strictly enforced moral code will not only be not free, it will not be moral either. Look at Russia, massive alcoholism and drug abuse, rampant prostitution and one of the highest abortion rates on earth. No amount of moral decrees from the KGB spook in the Kremlin will change that.

This chart comparing Russia to traditional one-trick-pony petrocracies proves you wrong. BTW, in terms of real PPP GDP, add another $600 billion to a Russian numbers, and cut $100-200 billion from Norway and Saudis. It would make an idea of Russia as a 'gas station pretending to ne a country' even more ridiculous.

Oil and gas revenues accounted for 52% of federal (Russian) budget revenues and over 70% of total exports in 2012, according to PFC Energy.
http://www.eia.gov/countries/cab.cfm?fips=rs
..................
Vladimir Putin’s commitment to oil and gas as the mainstay of Russia’s progress stems from a deep and abiding conviction about its importance to the nation’s economy. Long before he came to power, he had believed that “the restructuring of the national [Russian] economy on the basis of mineral and raw material resources” was “a strategic factor of economic growth in the near term.”[1]

In an article published a year before he became president, he reiterated that Russian mineral resources would be central to the country’s economic development, security, and modernization through “at least the first half” of the 21st century.[2] In Putin’s view, the only way for Russia to achieve economic growth of 4 to 6 percent per year—the tempo he deemed minimally necessary for Russia to reduce its lag behind the developed countries—was via “extraction, processing and exploitation of mineral raw resources.” This was the key to Russia’s becoming “a great economic power,” Putin believed.[3]

For Putin, oil and gas were also paramount politically as guarantors of the security and stability of the Russian state. As he put it, “The country’s natural resource endowment is the most important economic and political factor in the development of social production.” Furthermore, the “raw material complex” was the “basis for the country’s military might” and an “essential condition” for modernization of the military-industrial complex.[4] Finally, he believed the mineral extraction sector of the economy “diminishes social tensions” by raising the “level of well-being” of the Russian population.[5]

I agree, Obama has has a track record in Syria, Egypt, and Libya of intervening on the side of the Muslim Brotherhood and against Christians.

But it doesn't mean that all "revolutions" that occur on his watch are because of Obama.

Remember there is also a track record of revolutions in former Soviet states, Orange in Ukraine and Rose in Georgia, all before Obama. Also remember it was Yanukovich and his winning election results that were tossed during the Orange revolution.

I don't think Obama caused the Maiden protests. I don't think he cares that much. About Putin, I only think Obama cares about the gay thing.

We do know that Obama and his State Department wanted Yatsenyk as the interim PM and that's exacty what he got.

And we do know that Obama and Yatsenyk have done very little to defend Ukraine.

Unless you are living in socialism, there is a difference between federal budget and overall economy.
I wouldn’t argue that oil brings the most profit for the Russian government, but it only means they are taxing extraction like crazy while leaving the rest of businesses and individuals alone.
And there is no reason to overestimate trade ballance as an indicator as well.
They aren’t export too much apart from oil, but they aren’t import everything from China as well.
There are Russian-built motor vehicles, consumer electronics, including HDTVs and mobile devices, other appliances including cheap plastic things which aren’t Chinese-made. They still have Russian textile and shoes, and, surprisingly, these shoes fits, unlike earlier Soviet shoes. A little of the above is exported, being consumed domestically, but it still contributes to economy. When have you seen a US-made HDTV or shoes last time?
BTW, did you know that Russia is not only growing enough wheat to consume domestically but also a major exporter now? And we are talking about a country having a ‘bad weather’ in a period between 1914 and late 1990s, forces to buy all the wheat in US and Canada just a couple decades ago.

Oh I agree. Not everything in the world centers around Obama. But his cronies have a track record of sticking their noses where it ends up hurting America most.

And history shows that when corrupt leaders have issues on the homefront, they cast about for scapegoats and divert attenrion. With Russia, you have the biggest potential for diversion there is. And that is exactly what we see.

You have mass confusion with some Dems and some Pubs wanting conflict and others against. McCain and the Neocons are actively pushing for a fight. You have some of the public doing the rally around the leader bit while others say BS.

The end result is that a good number of his sins get set aside. All of that we see. It’s happening. And it benefits him.

As for VP, he is far from saintly. And he could very well turn into another Stalin. No argument there. That moment however, has not come. Yet. The bottom line for me is this is none of our business. It’s Europe’s problem. And their hands are far from clean in this as well.

They have dragged us into enough conflicts. Let them sort this one on their own. Without our guys dying and our energy going there so our prices can remain high.

It’s amazing to me how one moment, some on the right scream bloody murder about having enough of playing Team America World Police, and the next they are invoking Hitler and the need for us to play Team America World Police.

It can’t be both ways. Their country, their issues. Not ours.

Listen, life is not fair. This is an internet bulletin board. People will make fun of Putin. Others will make fun of the people who admire him. And still others will make fun of the fact that you appear to be butthurt about it.

Not at all. I think it’s hilarious that you and the other 3 or 4 waste so much time attacking your fellow Freepers and making Putin out to be the antichrist. I mean it’s not like there’s anything needing to be done to save our own asses from the fiasco that is the liberals or anything...

The only thing that genuinely annoys me is someone out there will actually listen to your blather and believe it. Which does no good for anyone on ‘our’ side of the fence. Well, mine anyway. But you have the right to do whatever you please. Even if you look like an ass doing it.

Carry on.

Have you ever asked one of our Russian revanchists to be “reasonable?” Do you fear that someone might listen to their blather and believe it? Show me the next time it happens.

I don’t ‘fear’ anything. I said it annoys me. There is a u large difference. But if/when I see someone actually taking part in “Putin worship” You can sleep well knowing I’ll give them as much crap as I give you and the gang. Except no one on FR actually does that. See, none of us ‘like’ the guy or want to have cubs with him. But giving him his due? Yup. There are things he does that are 100% hunky dory by me and others. Like putting gays back in the closet when they try pulling their crap there. But believe what you will.

Listen, we have people here who post anti-US Russian propaganda without flinching. They deserve all the ridicule they get, not some mealy-mouth pronouncement that you don’t see it yourself, or BS rationalizations about homos. And that goes for those who repeat it.

Well then I guess you need to setp up to the plate and turn all us commie sympathy sing scum in to either:

1: JR, because he might like to know he missed his site being used as a conduit for russian propaganda. Perhaps he could get several of the mods together for UAC..the Freeper UnAmerican Activities Committee.

2: DHS because I am quite sure that they would have a great interest in Russian agents working within American borders.

3: Lord Vader because we must also be the droids he was looking for.

Now you have a patriotic duty here. If you and the other 3-4 Captain Americans genuinely believe that a bunch of people posting pics of Vlad Putin riding a bear and laughing about it constitutes a threat to national security, then by all means, stop wasting time and get our asses tried for treason.

On the other hand, if you don’t, that would indicate your fear of filing a false report with the Govt. Which leads to the logical conclusion that you don’t really believe we just landed in our Migs intent to take over the world...or at least Cleveland.

So which is it gonna be? No really. Do you genuinely in your heart believe there are a bunch of us that are Russian propagandists here? Really? Or are you just making a lot of noise. Name names and call the feds.

All those dreamy Vlad on a bear pics are sure to be a hit on MSNBC when Obama’s tools release them to the press with a statement that the right wing is filled with crazies that can’t tell the difference between internet gallows/sarcastic humor and a national security violation.
