Saudi Arabia is scheduled to begin building the world’s tallest tower next week, which will soar 1km in to the sky when completed.

The Kingdom Tower in the coastal city of Jeddah will measure 3,280 feet (1km), some 568 feet (173 meters) taller than the current Guinness world record holder, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, which stands at 2,716 feet (827 metres).

At an estimated cost of $1.23bn, the tower in Saudi will require approximately 5.7 million square feet of concrete, 80,000 tonnes of steel for its 200 floors and will take five years to complete, according to The Saudi Gazette.

The tower, overlooking the Red Sea, will feature a five-star Four Seasons hotel, apartments, office space and an observatory.

But constructing the tower is not without its many challenges.

Good thing they don’t have to wade thru a bunch of American bureaucracy and enviro impact statments and stuff. Saudi builds stuff ,americans now shuffle papers….and file lawsuits.

Gee, what could go wrong with that?

We used to be on top and build the most impressive and tallest. Now the best a lot here can do is go ‘why?’ and not give a crap. Sad state, the rest of the world is leaving us quickly behind.

Why? A.Because they can. B. Because if they don’t do it, China will and take all the bragging rights with it. C. Because since Saudi Arabia is usually the instigator. checkwriter or online inspriation and recruiter agent of Tower Bomb Style Terrorists, they can make this Leaning Tower of Babel and rest assured that Hamas would not dare to bomb it. D. You gotta put all those extra wives and extra mother-in-laws somewheres, right? This way, everbody has the same address. There will even be room for all the lawyers, and their families too.

The Arab countries are all competing with each other for tallest building. Better than spending the money on bombs, I guess.

It’s amazing.

The average person just does not “get” the money flows.

“McFly” just can’t think.

We can’t even have the nicest stuff anymore. They gimped up the new WTC because they know it’ll be target #1. We’re cowering and falling behind in fear and poverty while they can boast and take off. We used to be able to go to the moon and now we can’t put a person in orbit.

I guess to some luddites and so on types may so whatever, we’re making progress on legal pot. So down the toilet we go.
