A museum dedicated to the victims of U.S. and NATO military aggression has opened in the North Caucasus city of Vladikavkaz.
The exhibition, which is housed at the National Scientific Library of North Ossetia, opened Thursday to visitors over the age of 16, and displays artifacts "attesting" to "the state terrorism" of Western nations, organizer Vyacheslav Lagkuyev said, Interfax reported.
Among the themes of the exhibition are the conflicts in Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan — each of which has its own display in the museum. The U.S. war in Vietnam and the NATO bombing of Serbia are also detailed in the exposition.

No sane leader would be this dismissive. Obama's no great shakes as a president, but he does have the weight of the entire US economy behind him, in addition to a military budget that's larger than the next ten countries combined. Putin was bluffing, because when it comes down to it, he has no cards to play. If McCain were in charge, he would have put conventional forces in Crimea, and the Russians would simply have slunk back into Russia. Because ultimately, no rational country is going to start a nuclear war over a failed invasion. Invasions are carried out to get territorial gains in exchange for very little cost. Nuclear wars against an opponent capable of retaliation not only don't result in any gains, they result in catastrophic losses, probably including everyone known to or related to the the leadership.

Extra credit for explaining why Americans should be willing for fight and die for Crimea, when Ukraine was unwilling to.
As of 1938, ethnic Germans had inhabited the Sudetenland for close to 7 centuries. By historical standards, Russians are arrivistes in the Crimea. Chamberlain was leery of challenging German dominance in a land (Czechoslovakia) that wouldn't defend itself. The result was WWII and 40m dead Europeans, along with 400K GI dead.
I don't support putting troops in the Crimea for the same reason that I don't support the existing system of alliances. I think we ought to pull out of existing alliances and slash defense spending to the bone to avoid the temptation to get involved in situations like this. Our muscle-bound defense establishment has put us in a situation where if we don't waste money on other people's problems, we look irresponsible, because we could have helped them, whereas all the weaklings by choice in the EU can say that they simply don't have to resources available. In the long run, we need to hold their feet to the fire, and let situations like Ukraine run their course - perhaps including giving Putin free rein to annex all of the ex-Warsaw Pact nations - so that the EU will finally start arming up in its own defense.
Having said that, if Obama (or McCain) had put troops in the Ukraine, Putin would have blinked. He doesn't have any cards to play. He doesn't have the hardware or manpower, and he doesn't have an economy that can go head-to-head with the US.
Wonder if they’ll have a KGB museum; they could have a special part dedicated to Putin and his dad. His father was also a secret policeman, but he didn’t spin that into a career that made him President for Life and a position that allowed him to become one of the richest men in the world.
Disagree. This is an opening Russian bid to eventuallyreplace as much American influence in Europe as they can. There is a perceived weakness in the leadership of the US. There is a rapidly changing demographic both here and in Europe. Putin has a weak hand, but (a) it's no weaker than ours, and (b) he can play it a lot better.
As far as military efforts might go, major elements of Obama's base would not ... IMNVHO, countenance it. They and Obama are anti-military.
Putin may well be nuts, but he ain't stupid. I have worked overseas for many long periods of time and although this is strictly anecdotal, I'll report that when we have had a President like Carter, or Clinton, Americans were not taken quite as seriously as when Bush (both) were President. Now this idiotic teleprompter jockey simply causes intelligent foreigners to roll their eyes and ask, "WTF are you people thinking?"
