Former Blue Angels commander relieved of duty amid misconduct probe

One of the Navy's top officers has been relieved of duty because of alleged misconduct while he was commander of the famed Blue Angels aerial demonstration team, the Navy announced Friday.

Capt. Gregory McWherter was relieved of his post as executive officer of Naval Base Coronado. The action was taken by Vice Adm. William French, commander of Navy Installations Command.

McWherter was commanding officer and flight leader of the Blue Angels from November 2008 to November 2010, and then from May 2011 to November 2012. The Blue Angels are based at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla.

French's decision "was based on initial findings of an ongoing investigation into recent allegations of misconduct and an inappropriate command climate" at the Blue Angels while McWherter was the commander, the Navy said. No other details were released.

There is plenty of purging going on, but satan is tempting many men in these last days.

Men, keep your nose clean...

I used to figure these types of things were so rare as to have some teeth if they were alleged.

Now? Now I figure the PC police were rung up by another Rat needing spin for another campaign meme.

What the hell does inappropriate command environment mean?

It could be used for just about anything. But, in this case, the Commander did something inappropriate, or allowed something inappropriate to go on with his knowledge.

It probably means he wouldn't ask the men to take down the Playboy Calendar in the officer's mess.

I think we would have lost World War 2 if my dad and his buddies were subject to the same rules as today’s servicemen.

Because Lord knows our military men “kept their noses clean” during WWII.

All they’re doing is weakening a country.

Rare?

I was in for 24 years and Captains, XOs, and CMC’s were fired all the time. Today is nothing different. Same old stories, different names.

No, not thaatttt serious, more like the dreaded “eye roll” when the subject of fudge packing came up then somebody turned him in to the PPA (Pervert Protection Administration) and now his career is over.....,,

Yep. Seems every other cover of Navy Times (or "Navy Crimes" as we like to call it) is another CO getting sacked. Nothing new.

I know all the conspiracy nuts like to think there's some sort of purge going on but there isn't. The Navy just likes to fire people in charge. Happened under Bush, under Clinton, and it happens now.

My bet? He still has a Romney / Ryan bumper sticker on his car and he used an “inappropriate” tooth brush 3 years ago. That’s as “unspecified” as I can get.

Considering the new direction of our military command.....I’ll take what is a woman for $500 Alex!

You could take “What is a man, Alex?” and have just as much of a chance of being correct?

Yes, it very much is! In fact, I landed there yesterday ending a 9 month deployment.

NAS JAX is home to a handful for helicopter and P-8 (which are the P-3 replacements) squadrons.

Mayport is coming back to life as well with the addition of some Amphibs to be homeported there.

When I was at Fort Bliss in the 80s, the base commander was discovered having an affair with his secretary.

When the CG found out, the base cdr was relieved, out of base housing, and retired within 24 hours.

You're right, nothing has changed.
