Deputy Shoots Himself in Leg While Trying to Kill Family Dog

If there is one law enforcement trend that I absolutely cannot stand or abide it is the killing of family pets by law enforcement officers.

Generally speaking these incidents are completely uncalled for and in most cases the animal represents no real harm to police officers. I understand that there are rare occurences when a dog might viciously attack an officer and true self defense may come into play, but I’m tired of hearing about animals that were killed because they “appear aggressive” or “barked aggressively”.

In this case, a family dog was nearly shot by a Riverside County, CA deputy who was serving court papers because the dog “came at him aggressively”. However, as he was drawing his gun to kill the animal, on private property, the deputy shot himself in the leg (it should be noted that the dog still did not harm the deputy even after he was immobilized).

The deputy is now being treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Animal control determined neither the dog nor its owner did anything wrong and will take no action against either.

No video of the cop shooting himself - only TV hype surrounding the event.

Dogs everywhere are licking their privates in satisfaction.

Canine schadenfreude.

Wait...he was serving an freaking eviction notice...

Not a search warrant, no drugs, nothing illegal, no reason not to call the home and ask to have the dog leased or put inside...

Also I noticed several small children playing in the yard...I wonder if officer Fife was going to shoot the dog in front of the children ?

As for dogs...........I walk every day and have dogs sometimes come out barking like they want to attack me,but most times just wanting to say hello and maybe go with me. I bought a stun gun and put a belt clip on it like for a cell phone. NOW, if a dog comes running at me I simply take the stun gun in my hand and when the dog gets close, I push the button and it makes that loud sound of electricity and thus far, EVERY dog I’ve done that to have hauled azz back home.

And what model Glock was he using?

‘Approached’ by the dog. Was that the running at the deputy, barking? Or the walking up wagging his tail approach.
Likely the former.

A pitbull running at me would cause me to think about defending myself.

You can see the deputy is texting while they pull him from the ambulance.

From the article, “The dog did not injure the officer after he was immobilized” tells me all I need to know about the dog. He wasn’t aggressive. He wasn’t trying to hurt the cop. If he wanted to.. he would have attacked him while the cop was on the ground. OTOH... I hope his leg hurts. Karma...

I don’t understand all the outrage on this thread.

Remember, even with a bullet in the leg, the office was able to go home to his family.

Nothing else matters.

Nothing.

Defend against a police dog and one can be prosecuted for attacking and resisting arrest by a police officer... If they shoot a family pet, it is just a dog.

Laws need to be consistant
