More Christians in China than the USA?
The Telegraph ^ | 4/19/2014 | Tom Phillips, Liushi, Zhejiang province

"Officially, the People's Republic of China is an atheist country but that is changing fast as many of its 1.3 billion citizens seek meaning and spiritual comfort that neither communism nor capitalism seem to have supplied.

"Christian congregations in particular have skyrocketed since churches began reopening when Chairman Mao's death in 1976 signalled the end of the Cultural Revolution.

"Less than four decades later, some believe China is now poised to become not just the world's number one economy but also its most numerous Christian nation."

You’re welcome. It’s good, and insightful, writing, which I admire all the more since I start from a perspective different from hers.

She is not agnostic because her and her monk believe they are deities. I like the article though. Maybe believing yourself to be a god is a first step towards believing in God? This is too much theology and philosophy before Easter!

Yeah, I don’t want my head hurting at this hour either, and I also know basically nothing about Buddhism. Anyway, Happy Easter!

Again to Russia. I was in Moscow when the major decreed all business should decorate for Christmas. Got to love that authoritarian streak and the crass commercialism BUT the contrast to my own country was still sad.

Maybe China and Russia can appreciate what they were denied for so long.

China was a full-fledged civilization when Jesus walked the earth, let’s not forget that either. I guess they were comparatively advanced at that time.

Sort of a Spiritual dosi-do, where everybody is evenly changed. Well, almost everybody.

So the Putin fan club will also include Xi Jinping. Sure. Why not? Invite both Russia and China to invade and occupy our country in hopes that they’ll preserve the debt/revenue suckage of the political/regulator class.

Political speech is a laugh riot these days.

Quite a few Chinese expatriates disagree very much with the author of that piece. There’s no real freedom of religious expression in China. It’s very regulated.

And Jesus said in “Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him (God) who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Do you think maybe the Chinese are following the commandments of Jesus more than us? Luke 9:23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

I am totally uncertain, that’s pretty much the definition of agnostic, isn’t it?

I’m not sure.

Thank you for your post. I appreciate it, and will bow out of this thread at the time being.

I as an America, do now want to speak to Chinese religious beliefs. Sorry.

Probably shouldn’t have started.

It makes you wonder. China home to the most Christians, “Vlad the Defender of the Faith, Putin”, African bishops opposed to gay marriage...what is become of our so called Christian Nation?

I travel a lot to Vietnam for business. In South Vietnam, I see churches so crowded for services, hundreds must sit outside in the courtyards. They are also open 24 hours a day, neighbors gather to talk, children to play nearly all hours. America has a lot of Christians, but society's appearance and behavior is becoming ever more secular, arrogant, and corrupt.
