Northwest Indiana mayor, wife and stepdaughter indicted (party never mentioned)

In the small town of Lake Station, Ind., the news that the mayor, his wife and stepdaughter have been indicted on federal corruption charges this week came as little surprise.

Residents in Lake Station, one of many working-class towns that fringe the northwest Indiana industrial centers of Gary and Hammond, have seen FBI agents leaving the town hall several times in recent years.

On Thursday, Keith Soderquist and his wife and personal secretary, Deborah, were in federal court in Hammond to face charges of wire fraud and filing false tax returns, after allegedly using money from Soderquist’s campaign fund and the town’s food pantry to gamble at a nearby casino.

In a separate indictment, Keith Soderquist’s stepdaughter, Miranda Brakley, was charged with embezzling money from the town court while working there as a clerk, and the Soderquists also face charges for attempting to conceal their receipt of $15,000 on her behalf.

Actually the MSM does say Democrat simply by not mentioning it. They think that if they don’t mention party other than (R) then the unwashed masses won’t know.

Does it matter what party he is? Especially given that its just some small town no one ever heard of. And if he’s a Dem, plenty of Republicans get caught with their fingers in the cookie jar (or other parts in places they shouldn’t be, as per the Louisiana Congressman who just got busted.)

Crimes among politicians is a bipartisan thing.

It matters in that it highlights the hypocrisy of the media, who ALWAYS mention the party if it's a Republican. And rarely does if it's a Dem.

The Trib leaves out some information.

The Chicago Tribune of old used to be a Conservative, pro-American paper. Colonel Robert R. McCormick, an outstanding horseman who valiantly served his country with General Pershing, would be appalled what's become of his once-great newspaper now that the leftists have taken it over.

Is the American flag still on their masthead or have the liberals removed that now?

They identify a Democrat as such only when the circumstances of the story absolutely force them to, and even then they’ll bury it.

Crimes among politicians is a bipartisan thing.

The vast majority of politicians that get caught committing crimes are democrats.

It's the lamestream media's same tactic when it comes to reporting the race of criminals. Instead of using the term "blacks", they are magically transformed into "teens".

Of course it matters — besides the corruption, the topic is about Partisan Media Shills.

Isn’t this the county that had so much trouble giving the primary vote tally until the wee hours of the morning, then suddenly had just enough votes to put Obama over the top in Indiana?

Lake Station, aka, East Gary, is located in Lake County where urban legend has it there was once a registered Republican.

Mayor Soderquist, 44, and his wife, Deborah, are accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a campaign finance account and taking money from the Lake Station Food Pantry, which is funded by state tax dollars.

A federal grand jury indicted the Soderquists on Wednesday. According to the indictments, they lost more than $100,000 at Indiana and Michigan casinos between the spring of 2010 and December 2012, after allegedly taking the cash.

Federal agents searched Lake Station City Hall looking for evidence last fall. Defense attorney Scott King said the mayor and his wife, who is also his adminitrative assistant, have been cooperating with federal agents for more than a year.

Miranda Brakley, the mayor’s step-daughter, was charged in a separate indictment with allegedly filing false bankruptcy papers and stealing bond money while working at the city courthouse.

Virtually every thinking member of the public is now very aware when this is not mentioned, it most certainly involves a Democrat. This is similar to other types of crime, when certain facts very useful in locating the perpetrators are not mentioned.

Of course, there are a lot of “non-thinking” members of the public...

“Does it matter what party he is?”

It certainly does, when REPUBLICANS involved in crimes are referred to constantly as “REPUBLICAN such and such was charged/convicted” in the headline...and the affiliation of Democrats is NEVER mentioned or is buried. This, of course, is all orchestrated and deliberate.

VAST majority? Really? Got some data to back that up?

The political class IS a criminal class. Party matters not a bit.
