Good news. Crime is down in Chicago. Walk the streets late at night. Carry your wallet in your back pocket. It’s safe.
Homicides dropped 18 percent in Chicago last year and crime overall was down 16 percent, according to statistics released by the police department this morning.
Shootings across the city dropped by 24 percent from 2012 and 16 percent from 2011, according to the department’s numbers. Sexual assaults were down 6 percent from last year, robberies down 12 percent, serious battery down 16 percent, burglaries down 22 percent, motor vehicle thefts down 23 percent, thefts down 3 percent.
How was this accomplished? It’s Chicago run by a former member of Obama Inc. How do you think they did it?
At the womans feet, detectives found a curled strand of telephone wire. Draped over her right hand was a different kind of wire: thin and brown. The same brown wire was wrapped around each armrest of a wooden chair next to her.
The following day, July 24, a pathologist in the Cook County medical examiners office noticed something else that had been obscured by rotting skin: a thin gag tied around the corpses mouth.
Thanks to some still-visible tattoos, detectives soon identified this unfortunate woman: Tiara Groves, a 20-year-old from Austin. She was last seen walking alone in the wee hours of Sunday, July 14, near a liquor store two miles from the warehouse. At least eight witnesses who saw her that night told police a similar story: She appeared drunk and was upsetone man said that she was crying so hard she couldnt catch her breathbut refused offers of help. A man who talked to her outside the liquor store said that Groves warned him, excitedly and incoherently, that he should stay away from her or else somebody (she didnt say who) would kill him too.
So… obviously not a murder.
Given the finding of homicideand the corroborating evidence at the crime scenethe Chicago Police Department should have counted Grovess death as a murder. And it did. Until December 18. On that day, the police report indicates, a lieutenant overseeing the Groves case reclassified the homicide investigation as a noncriminal death investigation. In his writeup, he cited the medical examiners inability to determine a cause of death.
That lieutenant was Denis Walshthe same cop who had played a crucial role in the alleged cover-up in the 2004 killing of David Koschman, the 21-year-old who died after being punched by a nephew of former mayor Richard M. Daley.
And this wasn’t a unique event.
Was it just a coincidence, some wondered, that the reclassification occurred less than two weeks before the end of the year, when the city of Chicagos final homicide numbers for 2013 would be tallied?
Chicago conducted a 12-month examination of the Chicago Police Departments crime statistics going back several years, poring through public and internal police records and interviewing crime victims, criminologists, and police sources of various ranks. We identified 10 people, including Groves, who were beaten, burned, suffocated, or shot to death in 2013 and whose cases were reclassified as death investigations, downgraded to more minor crimes, or even closed as noncriminal incidentsall for illogical or, at best, unclear reasons.
This troubling practice goes far beyond murders, documents and interviews reveal. Chicago found dozens of other crimes, including serious felonies such as robberies, burglaries, and assaults, that were misclassified, downgraded to wrist-slap offenses, or made to vanish altogether.
Welcome to 21st century crime fighting. This is why it’s a good idea to study monthly crime numbers and compare them to the annual numbers to check for major discrepancies. There’s less time to reclassify them, though the reclassification still goes on.
It’s a familiar phenomenon in Socialist systems. The planners create a target that relies on statistics. Then everyone in the system is pressured to meet that target… which they do by faking the statistics.
It’s how the USSR brought in 97 percent of the crop without there being any food and why High School graduation rates suddenly increased in the US even though the graduates were more ignorant than ever.
Rahm learned from the best liar in the world. You didn’t really believe those unemployment numbers the past five years or the ObamaCare enrollment figures he spouted last week, did you?
I think I posted the ChicagoMag article last week. It’s an amazing article and I’m looking forward to part 2.
They’re not fooling anyone. I just spent a long weekend in Chicago for a wedding. Who cares how they classify things? The local media announces the shootings and deaths every night on the TV.
Ah. “Inability to determine cause of death”. The one category that skyrocketed no doubt.
Some 18% less than atrociously high is still in the range of atrociously high.
It is still highly dangerous to walk the streets of Chicago at night in certain areas (which is most of the city), and without carrying some kind of personal defense, is foolhardy in the extreme.
Carrying Mace, pepper spray, some kind of stun gun or taser, or a Glock (legal or not) may be the only way of being sure that you have a chance of coming out alive in such an encounter. Of course, you would be subject to arrest for “illegal” self-defense, you were supposed to wait for the cops to show up.
To attempt to make identification on your now lifeless body.
Memphis just annexes new territory. They have finally run out of places to annex to dilute the crime rate. They no longer publish the Penal Farm 11 month 29 day facility, which is at 85% and climbing, average serve time lucky if 90 days. Most like DUI served on weekends.
These offenders had accumulated 4.1 million arrest charges before their most recent imprisonment and another 744,000 charges within 3 years of release.
Older study, but invaluable info. https://www.ncjrs.gov/txtfiles/ppvsp91.txt
Keep in mind the sampling was just 45%, they originally committed 25,900, when placed early release under ‘community’ supervision for parole and probation they then committed another 74,400 new crimes. That folks adds up to 100,300 crimes, and many times more than in victims. As there are multiple people affected when a child is raped or a person murdered.
This is an older study as there are no newer ones, this gives you a big idea of just how many additional early release of criminals to parole and probation cause.
Probation & Parolee’s
In 1991, 45% of State prisoners were persons who, at the time they committed their offense, were under conditional supervision in the community—either on probation or on parole. They then committed an additional 74,400 new crimes. Their original crimes add up to 25,900. The NEW crimes FAR out ceded their REPEAT CRIMES. Total 100,300 crimes this is JUST 45% of the parole and probation population.
I was born in Chicago, long after it had achieved its notoriety for gangsters and the violence attendant to them. When young I frequently walked the streets with my parents at night on the near-north side without a thought of danger. Perhaps it was dangerous but we didn’t worry about it.
Rahm learned from the best liar in the world
Most prolific does not mean best! He just happens to be the most protected liar in the world.
To attempt to make identification on your now lifeless body...AND to classify your death as a mere accident...
Liquor store robbery shooting = Work place violence.
Pizza delivery man hold up - Work place violence.
Rewriting history, a liberal hobby.
DimocRATS doing what DimocRATS do — lie about everything!
If the cops/crime-historians don’t take a report, the crime nevah happened.
It’s not who kills the bodies, but who counts them!
