Justice Dept. broadening criteria for clemency

The Justice Department is broadening the criteria it will use in evaluating clemency petitions from certain federal prisoners and expects the changes to result in thousands of new applications, Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday.

The new criteria, which will be detailed later this week and are aimed at inmates serving time for nonviolent drug offenses, are intended to lead to a reduction in the nation’s federal prison population and also “ensure that those who have paid their debts have a chance to become productive citizens,” Holder said in a video message.

The announcement is part of an ongoing Obama administration push to re-evaluate sentences for drug crimes that officials believe were unduly harsh and were imposed under old federal guidelines that treated convictions for crack cocaine offenses more punitively than those involving the powder form of the drug. …

More lawlessness.

African-American drug dealers will get preferential treatment, if Holder has anything to do with it.

They need to clear out the prisons to make space for TEA Partiers, Conservatives and other domestic terrorists.

I’ve been lurking here for years without posting commentary because other FReepers generally covered what I wanted to say. However, today I was finally moved to join FR because of what you guys seem to be missing about this story.

Basically, to understand the values and motivation behind this administration’s seeminly alien policies, you need to read up on the Black Nationalist movement, in particular the writings of Marcus Garvey, Carlos Cooks, Elijah Muhammad and others. Start out with the values enumerated on the Trinity Church website (remember Jeremiah Wright) and work backward to find the original source material. Eventually you will find lists and publications that describe the values, beliefs, grievances, and action plans (often violent and unapologetically racist) which the self-described racial separatists and black supremacists wrote about all the way back to the turn of the 19th century. This includes organized groups such as the Black Nationalists & Pan-Afrikanists of the early 20th century, the Nation of Islam in the 1950s, the Black Panthers of the 1960s, and the modern New Black Panthers of today.

Once you get familiar with their writings and philosophies, you’ll understand where this administration may be coming from in terms of policies that don’t seem to make sense to the rest of us. The truth is they do make sense, but only from a certain perspective. When you dig into the original source material, you will learn to understand the perspective and will quickly recognize their modern relationship to Obamacare, clemency for prisoners, fair pay, voting rights, Michelle’s food obsession, hip-hop culture, etc. I was surprised to discover that these groups hated civil rights legislation and despised integrationists like Martin Luther King, whom they thought was a sellout.

If you’re like me, you’ll start wondering how much the guy in the Oval Office was involved in this movement & philosophy while he grew up and rose to power, along with Michelle, Eric Holder, and Valerie Jarrett. The connections and similarities will floor you as the patterns emerge, and you’ll wonder why so many other people have missed them.

It’s a difficult topic, but do your own research on Black Nationalism, and see what you come up with. You’ll find a surprisingly large underground community of militant racism whose values and ideologies will start looking familiar, the more you dig into them.

I’ve only been researching this over the past few weeks, but believe me, it has been an eye-opener.

You are quite correct. I worked in the early 90’s in DC and had contact with a number of members of the Nation of Islam. We had spirited but cordial debates and they loaned me tapes of speeches and copies of The Final Call. It seems that a much more virulent version is at the forefront now.

Good post, and a nice start to your stay here. Welcome to FR.

I’ve got some familiarity with them. Marcus Garvey’s false prophecy about an Ethiopian king gave rise to Rastafarianism, just for starters.

Don’t forget about Hubert Harrison, the socialist and race radicalist who influenced Garvey and too many others.

My eyes were opened when I saw a very close friend, a female African-American, descend into an obsession with this virulent racial mythology soon after Obama was elected. She had been a corporate manager at a major pharmaceutical firm, but after she started buying into this and wearing it on her sleeve, they went looking for ways to fire her without getting sued for discrimination. I don’t know where she ended up because I couldn’t even talk to her anymore, because she kept challenging me (as a white guy) with this crazy black nationalist dogma she was embracing.

That’s when I started doing internet research on some of the nutty beliefs she was buying into, and found a whole underground community of militant black nationalists, with their own racial mythology, values, morality and codewords. Then I started to notice the similarities and overlaps with some of the policies & positions of the current administration. That’s when I realized the Obamas and their closest advisors are probably black nationalists, cut from the original cloth.

Like I said, it was a real eye-opener!

I believe a lot of this comes from Holder, he’s been a black nationalist all the way back to his days at Columbia and the BSO’s occupation of college property.
