"........At best, this for-the-children rhetoric is passive, saying, Well, somehow, things the environment, racism, civil rights, the pay gap will get better down the line. It leaves hard-to-combat problems up in the air where some mysterious and benevolent force the Time Fairy, essentially will bring about progress for us. This lets us, the people existing in America right now, off way too easily.
At worst, this for-the-children rhetoric is an active pawning off of responsibility, saying, Well, our unborn generations will work hard to figure all this out after weve been unable to. It shrugs the task from our present-day shoulders, placing the crushing burden on those who dont even exist yet.
Because here is the thing: For-the-children rhetoric is dishonest. A patent lie. It says, basically, We dont know whats wrong, we havent figured it out yet, but down the road at some unspecified point in time, someone else will. Thats ridiculous. We do know whats wrong racism is bad. The gender-based pay gap is bad. Unregulated financial rapaciousness on the part of banks and industry is bad. Rampant environmental degradation and destruction are bad. We are far from ignorant of the problems that require our national attention.
What for-the-children rhetoric permits is for everyone Democrats, Republicans, independents or otherwise to stick their heads in the sand and act like these things are somehow incomprehensible mysteries because wed prefer not to start the hard thinking and heavy lifting these issues require. We know, for example, that polluting our drinking water with chemicals and heavy metals is terrible; we just dont want to stop because continuing is profitable. We want our children to stop, while giving ourselves an excuse to keep engaging in execrable behaviors indefinitely. And thats appalling........"

If the kids are so important, how come I can abort one?
Afluenza.
If 60 (years of age) is the new 40 then 30 must be the new 20. Who are “the children” now?
The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.
Adolf Hittler, Mein Kampf p.147 (I think the page is right)
“At worst, this for-the-children rhetoric is an active pawning off of responsibility, saying, Well, our unborn generations will work hard to figure all this out after weve been unable to. The author of this, whatever you would call it, is exactly 180 degrees off target.
The ‘it’s for the children’ crap is always used to push through crap that will punish taxpayers now for some unforeseen benefit many years from now that somehow never prove to be true.
It has never been used to put something off and let our children figure out what they want later, that would be the right thing to do!
And the author's solution? Ever more, bigger and bigger government to "regulate" these things. It's always, always the liberal's answer.
The writer is blind and chooses not to see.
> The writer is blind and chooses not to see.
And really believes CAIR (Council on Anerican Islamic Relations) is here to improve the relationship between Americans and Islam, not a terrorist front organization that is a front for HAMAS even though they were busted foR collecting money for them in 2009. To the liberal that was just a “simple misunderstanding”.
Spot on.
As George Caralin once said “Eff the children!”
None is so blind as he (she in this case) who chooses not to see.
I would love to sit down with this person and try to reason with them. Probably futile, though.
