Rothenberg: Udall will lose Colorado Senate seat to Gardner

Colorado Sen. Mark Udall will lose his tough re-election campaign to Republican Rep. Cory Gardner in November, according to Roll Call’s Stu Rothenberg, who made the prediction on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday.

Udall is running a neck-and-neck race with Gardner, whose decision to run for Senate in lieu of reelection to the House energized what had been a lackluster race. The high-profile duel has attracted big money from groups supporting both candidates and the issues have centered on energy and health care.

Host Candy Crowley asked her guests — in addition to Rothenberg, the panelists included Mo Elleithee of Hilltop Public Solutions and Republican National Committee spokesman Sean Spicer – to suggest something that will surprise her on the day after the election.

“I think probably Udall loses in Colorado to Cory Gardner in a race that, three months ago, you would have said is off the table,” Rothenberg replied.

The most recent poll, by American Crossroads, shows Udall with a two-point lead over Gardner. Voters polled disapprove of Udall’s job performance 46-38 percent.

Udall is believed to be vulnerable for his support of the Affordable Care Act as well as on his attempt to straddle the fence on energy issues. On one hand, he has pledged to fight climate change, a stance that has attracted him to big-money donor Tom Steyer, who has pledged $100 million for campaigns highlighting that issue.

They have not taken into account the democrat’s unmatched talent for losing ballots, finding other ones, multi-district voters, and - of course - the normal sleeze associated with things liberal.

And let’s remember, Gardner is the “chosen one” by the Colorado Republicans, a party with a fine record of incompetance. This party could f...er...Obama up a wet dream.

I hope Udall is taken down. What a slime. He’s a Harry Reid in training.

The race will come down to a difference of a few hundred votes... and we know how well the dems are at “fixing” that little problem.

You’re right about the incompetence of the Colorado Republican Party but wrong about Gardner. Cory’s the only Republican in this state with any real gravitas. Anyone else would be clobbered. It’s unfortunate we’ve got only one heavy-weight Pub, but VERY fortunate that Gardener’s actually a conservative AND that he’s being matched up against someone powerful who is REALLY worth getting rid of!

Yeah, I have a feeling we’ll see 110% turnout in some of the precincts in Denver for this race.

Wow. This would be a second tier pick up - icing on the cake if we can get the other ones that are higher probabilities.

They won’t have to do the 110% route in CO.

Now they can simply bus them to another district, the ‘voter states he is planning to live there, vote, get back on the bus, and presto! it’s done.

It’s funny really. Mark Udall, scion of Mo Udall, is as hard Left and corrupt as his father who apparently gifted the seat to his lacklustre little boy.

I am weary of “dynasties” Lincoln Chafee actually was appointed to his dead father’s senate seat in Rhode Island. Lincoln’s qualification for the job? He was a farrier at a horse stable. That means he shoveled horse shit and groomed the horses with a brush when the owners were done riding them.

Lincoln Chafee was a stumbling, bumbling epic failure whose only memorable quality was how effeminate his speech was and how his mannerisms, girly handflapping while attempting to assemble a cogent sentence, left one to conclude this is just another homo with a beard to hide behind (a wife and kids).

Mo’s district was in Southern AZ (as was Stu’s before him). Mark moved to Boulder and Stu’s son moved to New Mexico, where both got elected to the Senate in 2008.

Although “this Udall” claims to be a Presby, the whole Udall clan are at their roots Mormons, just like Harry Reid.

The negative ads towards Gardner are already being aired locally. The Dems are in a panic.
