Egypt Signing Unprecedented $3 Billion MIG-35 Deal with Russia
The Jewish Press ^ | April 22nd, 2014

Posted on 04/22/2014 12:27:04 PM PDT by sukhoi-30mki

Ehud Ya’ari of Israel’s Channel 2 News reported on Tuesday night, that Egypt and Russia will be signing an unprecedented military agreement.

In this agreement between Cairo and Moscow, Egypt will receive 24 of Russia’s advanced Mikoyan MiG-35 fighter jets, along with military and strategic advisers, as well as training for the Egyptian Air Force.

The deal is worth $3 billion.

It follows in the footsteps of a $2 billion arms deal that Egypt signed with Russia in February, and was primarily funded by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The deal itself has been in the works since November, as JewishPress.com reported when Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visited Cairo and Egyptian leader Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and developed in response to decreased US military aid to Egypt.

This deal is a major setback to US policy and diplomacy in the Middle East, and is a direct slap in the face for U.S. President Obama.

In related news, the U.S. is sending 600 troops to Eastern Europe for an exercise, to try to reassure its NATO allies, following Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

Another nation that had moved to join the West, now pushed firmly into the Eastern camp by one Barack Obama (and George Soros, as well.).

They don’t want anymore of our F-16s?

I thought we were “giving” them a good deal on those.

Obama, making friends whereever he goes.

How does it feel, Mister Obama, to be America's last black President?

Just like the good ole Pre-Yom Kippur War days when Egypt flew MIGs serving as nice target practice of IAF Mirages and Phantoms. Sadat must be rolling in his grave and Nassar is having a good laugh. This sounds like that famous Marx quote about 2nd time as farce with Zero providing the impetus for this farce.

We also gave them the Muslim Brotherhood, so it kinda balances out.

The USA provides Egypt with $2.0B per year in military aid.
I believe that money must be spent in the USA.
How will Egypt pay for the Russian Migs?

along with military and strategic advisers

There has not been Soviet/Russian advisers in Egypt for over 40 years when Sadat kicked them out in 1972. Way to go Zero!

“is a direct slap in the face for U.S. President Obama.”

He is probably getting used to it.

But Egypt will still get billions in foreign aid.

The Egyptians even have a name for it: “Jizya”.

You appear to be one of the few who understands how FMS Foreign Military Sales works. It’s a jobs package for US industry.

I think Saudi Arabia is providing the cash for the MIGs. (They have been bolstering their influence quite a bit of late.)

It's so hard to understand how this could have happened. Oh, wait! Now I remember. Could it be because Bathhouse Barry was doing all he could to support and assist the Muslim Brotherhood? Payback is a b*tch, isn't it Barry?

Look south like KSA. Then again, I’m sure there are favorable terms with the trade deal on the table and under. Who knows what goes on in backrooms too. Either way, there appears to be a shift away from the US.

Yeah, Obama’s meddling, you know, what he promised when he took office that he wasn’t going to do, has backfired everywhere he meddles.

Obama admin is good at ripping up things, with no plan worth a hoot, to fix up what he rips up.

“How will Egypt pay for the Russian Migs?”

I think that the Russians have learned how the game works. You lend money to the country to buy their weapons from you. It makes the weapons you buy less expensive and it keeps multiple assembly lines open at a manageable cost.

Considering the MIG-35 is still not in production then this order is years away from being filled. And if Russia offers Egypt a stop-gap solution, say the MIG-29SMT, then the Egyptians would be well advised to ask Algeria how that worked out. Link

How will Egypt pay for the Russian Migs?

If not with US loans, then with Russian loans. It's Putin's investment in the MidEast.

Besides, the West seems happy to loan Ukraine money to pay Russia for gas... sanctity of funds doesn't seem to apply in politics.

The Egyptians don’t have any money.

These planes won’t leave the ground but once a year. So that their pilots will remember how to take off and land for air shows.

This is such a waste of money and time. Pity the Egyptians.
