Do not hurt Russian people with sanctions: Jimmy Carter
AFP via Yahoo ^

Paris (AFP) - Former US president Jimmy Carter said Tuesday the West should not impose sanctions that would hurt the Russian people over their leaders' actions in Ukraine.

"So far, we have limited the sanctions to the leadership of Russia, and I think that is the proper approach," the Nobel peace laureate told AFP on the sidelines of a discussion in Paris on climate change.

"I don't think we would go so far as to impose

The statesman was taking part in a meeting with students as a member of The Elders group set up to promote human rights around the world.

US Vice President Joe Biden earlier warned Russia of "more costs" and "greater isolation" if it continued to "pull Ukraine apart".

Carter, who is credited with brokering the 1978 Cape David peace accords between Egypt and Israel and establishing US diplomatic relations with China, said Russia's takeover of Crimea had been "inevitable".

"I don't think anything could have been done by the US or European countries or anyone else to prevent that eventuality.

"Russia has always considered Crimea to be part of Russia."

And he said: "my hope and my belief is that (Russian President Vladimir) Putin is not going to use military force" in eastern Ukraine.

"He is going to try to use other means to convince those people who live there that their best option is to cast their lot more towards Russia than towards the West. So I don't think there is anything we can do that is going to deter Putin."

Carter said Ukrainians must be allowed to decide their own fate.

And he said he hoped they would be supported by Russia from the East and the United States and Europe from the West so as to "not be torn between the two."

Oh that's rich! After the Soviets for 70 years what could Obama do that the Russian people would even notice?

I suspect that his opinions are for sale via the “Carter Center”. You probably go to the “online store”, put a little Jimmuh in your “shopping cart”, pay with credit card or paypal and he’ll say what you want him to say. He has zero credibility anyway so it’s not like he’s going to lose any.

This is a good example on why the NSA has no intention on tapping his cell phone/internet account. He says nothing that is of any use.

Nathan Bedford's first Maxim of international relations: People get the government they deserve and they deserve what they get.

In other words, if you tolerate a government of George III you get a colonial structure. If you tolerate a government which will put 6 million people in ovens and aggress against its neighbors, you get the utter destruction of your cities. If you tolerate a government of the cult of personality, you get Stalinism in Russia and the cultural Revolution in China and you deserve both.

The foreign policy of the United States should not operate as a jury nor is it the Salvation Army or the Red Cross, the United States is a nation state must act in its own best interests and if the people of other countries condone the government which leaves them liable to the effects of sanctions, they deserve it. Modern revisionist historians, eager to make a name for themselves and to further the leftist agenda the cornerstone of which is the illegitimacy of America, are eager to criticize America for the destruction of Hiroshima and Dresden. The responsibility for the destruction of those cities lies with the Japanese and the Germans and nowhere else. I say this as an ex Pat living in Germany.

Next to Camp Fear.

Separated by "Clueless Bay" where you can find the 'killer' rabbits swimming!

Jimmah Cahtah had almost nothing to do with the Camp David agreement in 1978. The media keeps this lie alive...

What a ####ing dunce. Y'know, the same can be said for the takeover of the Korean peninsula by the illegal Pyongyang regime, or the Mexican / Arab takeover of the SW United States, or Carter's favorite, the liquidation of the Zionist entity.
