A teenage stowaway who survived a five-hour flight to Hawaii in the landing gear of an airplane wont face federal charges, officials said Monday. He apparently didnt even know where the flight was going. This was not something he planned out, said Special Agent Tom Simon, an FBI spokesman in Honolulu. My impression is that he ran for the first flight he saw. The 16-year-old was running away from his home in Santa Clara, Calif., and scaled a perimeter fence at San Jose International Airport early Sunday before entering a wheel well of a Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 767, authorities said. In skipping charges, agents may have decided the boy has suffered enough. The wheel well of the jet is not pressurized or heated, meaning the teen possibly endured extremely thin air and temperatures as low as 80 degrees below zero when the plane cruised at 38,000 feet.

Well, that ought to discourage such attempts...
I say don’t charge him. Let’s put him in a barrel and make him go over Niagara Falls
When I first heard of this story I thought “where was the vaunted tsa?” This could easily have been a terrorist with a bomb.
So if he had planned it a little better, like taking oxygen, food and a coat, they would have charged him?
Most criminals aren’t very good at considering the consequences of their actions.
The message is, if you belong to a certain “group” you can do what others can’t get away with.
Would he have been charged if he was white? Just askin’...
Thank goodness he was raising cattle!
was = wasn’t
He also survived 5 hours of below zero cold, iffy air pressure and definitely a shortage of oxygen. For his body to have survived that, he must have been in extremely good and vibrant health.
Now that he has been deposited upon Hawaii's sunny shores, I believe that he deserves a respite. He should be put up for at least a few weeks in a 5-star resort (courtesy of the airline) and have access to the best food, drink and those Hawaiian Luau girls with the long black hair and colorful beads.
He does stand to make some decent money selling his story to any number of tabloids and cable shows. Perhaps even a book and a TV movie could be in the works.
It keeps getting colder and colder. The first report I heard was -35 degrees.......
Is the teenager’s ethnicity known? All the news I hear is that he was some kind of 16-yr old runaway kid ...
No. He would have been diagnosed with “affluenza” and sent on his merry way.
If not some type of criminal charge, ding him for the price of a worst-class ticket, at least. He got a pretty expensive trip out of it!
For crying out loud, if I walk down a RAILROAD TRACK near my childhood home, they threaten to fine me. Decisions have — should have, used to have — consequences.
Indeed and no 72 Virgins needed for incentive either. Just sneak over an apparently weak fence, plant a bomb in a wheel well and watch the fireworks while sipping on a margarita.
Exactly. Because THAT, would be a crime.
he wanted to visit his Mom in Somalia.
Way of Hawaii.
TSA is too busy frisking little old ladies and molesting the disabled.
It’s better not to require Holder’s peeps to be held accountable.
