AMSTERDAM (AP) -- The Dutch defense department says several NATO member countries scrambled jets Wednesday afternoon after a pair of Russian bomber planes approached their airspace over the North Sea.
The Dutch ministry identified the planes as two Russian TU-95 Bears, and said it had launched two F-16s from Volkel air force base to intercept them. The Russian jets were escorted by aircraft from the Netherlands, Britain and Denmark until they departed.

just shoot the m-fers down one time. think twice about pulling this constant sh1t.
What for? It doesn’t seems like Dutch airspace was violated from this article.
Not this crap again.
Russia invades one country and it’s right back to Cold War shenanigans.
Ok, then. What do we do when they sink an aircraft carrier?
I don't know about 'we', but Obama will fire off a tersely worded communique, no doubt.
They most likely won’t do any huge damage.
I really think Putin is just flexing his muscles and showing off. And making everyone nervous. I need to exclude the Ukraine from this statement. They need to be nervous.
That’s bright. Pulling what? Flying an airplane in international airspace?
These aircraft were in International airspace and there's nothing in this article or any other I can find that says they violated the airspace of any nation. Their whole flight after they left Russian airspace was totally within the norms of flight training. I don't see that any German aircraft were scrambled when they passed through International airspace in the Baltic.
Really, I don't get it. What's with scrambling the aircraft and making a big deal out of this if it's not to give a false impression?
If someone has a link that elaborates on why aircraft were scrambled and how this is a big deal, please post it for me.
Got a few things going on,
Latest is link at #14.
You all need to worry when New Zealand scrambles its airforce.
You mean like Gary Powers??
They are doing the same thing that they did all the time I was on active duty. The difference is that back then, we replied in kind.
Operation Drop Kick ?
Of course the Russkis are perfectly within their rights to fly their 60 year-old TU-95s through international airspace to vintage aircraft shows whenever they feel like it. They may also have been ferrying the geriatric crews to Sam's Club for new hearing aids
However, they may have violated the EU's strict noise pollution controls.
As far as military threat to our carriers goes, the Bear need not leave Russki or other friendly airspace to launch its long range nuclear AS ship-killer missiles.
Yo, a 500knt turboprop bomber with a 15,000 mile range. I want one.
"Yo, a 500knt turboprop bomber with a 15,000 mile range. I want one."
Oddly enough, it was recently reported that the Ukraine would be selling one on Ebay
The Kenyan and Hanoi John seem to be doing a splendid job in keeping the Russians in line. Sarc off.
