It’s easier to seduce teenagers into homosexual activity if you can legally get them drunk.

Democrats are simply using all these issues (pot legalization, and now lowering the drinking age) to get young people to the polls, knowing when they get there they will most likely vote democrat.

Same holds true for heterosexual activity as well.

True, but my comment was specific to the homosexual author.

I grew up with 18. I had a buddy who worked as an orderly in an ER who used to take draft cards off of accident victims so we could buy beer when we were 16.

The idea of 21 is so absurd, I don’t even know where to begin.

Actually, this is correct. When I was growing up in New York, 18 was the legal age, and this worked perfectly well. Since you can do everything else at 18 or even younger (getting married, joining the military, etc.), maintaining a fictional “legal drinking age” of 21 is silly.

I think they are talking about raising the “legal age” for cigarette purchases to 21 as well.

Meanwhile, kids are allowed to hang around getting stoned in public, as they did in the civic square in Denver last weekend...I think it’s because stoners are easy to control and thus pot is the government’s favorite drug.

I recommend that people click on the Time link to read the entire essay. It’s pretty good.

I came of age during Viet Nam when the drinking age was lowered to 18 because if boys could die in a hated war they could at least have a beer publicly before they were drafted.

She makes an excellent case for the problems of binge drinking on campuses, marijuana use and texting while driving - which is now killing more people than drunks!

Where in the Constitution does it give the federal government the right to dictate the drinking age to the states?

It’s not just a coincidence that this falls on the heels of marijuana legalization.
