Free Republic is no different from anywhere else. There are a lot of confused individuals in our society to listen to the talking sychophants or are more socialist bent than they think they are.

The guy is an idiot. Who, in their right mind, brings this stuff up in front of a camera.

Ah, so, he's an idiot because he doesn't take into account the modern consequences of speaking his beliefs in politically-correct pseudo-English.

He's made us look bad to liberals!

Surely, you can understand that we inevitably lose if we are forced to couch our arguments in terms that the liberals communists will accept. Life is not one big press conference.

To tell the truth, until I watched this video, I was inclined to think as you do. I realize now how wrong I was.

If he is, it still isn’t the point. And he isn’t making laws to get them here easier like Bhoner and Rand.

All I'm trying to say is that the guy is making it very difficult for various media , politicians and regular people to support him. I agree with him on the grazing rights, have some problems with anyone saying maybe slavery is a better option and totally against the amnesty option.

I'm against the alphabet agency's heavy handed handling of various situation and even though I didn't weigh in previously on the Negro threads I don't think you can totally disregard the concerns.

“I am certain he is being quoted incorrectly, and I am certain his premise is correct...he’s still extremely unwise to even bring it up. He needed to stay on point. He made the same fatal flaw of some of our candidates. Stay on message.”

Mr. Bundy is not a politician or a candidate for anything. But he needs to do what a tea party candidate should do. Stand by your statements and don't back down. He has a good message. And he is right. He just didn't use the exact right words.

The problem is, there are no right words that a conservative can say. According to the media. Or the left. Same thing, but anyway....I have no tolerance for racists. Nothing in what Mr. Bundy said sounded to me to be racist. Everything he said sounds racist to Liberals. So, who's right?

Heck, I don't know the man, maybe he is a racist. But there is nothing wrong with this particular message. As a matter of fact it needs to be hammered into the nation's consciousness. By a more polished messenger to be sure.

It is 100% clear that Cliven Bundy is not saying that blacks should be slaves picking cotton, but that the Federal government has created conditions for them so terrible, that their current situation may actually be worse. (If you are person of low intelligence, the fact that that is his point might be too hard for you to understand.)

Everyone--even the harshest critics of Bundy's comments--understands that this was his point. Most people, however (other than the relatively few people who are defending/agreeing with the comments) understand that the point is complete bullsh*t. Yes, government policies have done untold harm to the black family structure since at least the Great Society in the 60s. But, as bad as modern policies have been, they don't even begin to compare to the harm and horrors caused by slavery.

Maybe not. But truth isn’t always easy. It’s our job, individually, to ascertain truth. The media and govt. proved they cannot be trusted. Nor can their little elves running around the web.

I get what you are saying. But we have a responsibility to ourselves and to the country as a whole to not be sheep.

I agree. As long as the conservative media talking heads side with the left, we will never coalesce against the onslaught. Beck, Hannity, Hedgecock, et al, will point and declare us the radical fringe. The GOP does that with incredible audacity already.

Then we have within the ranks of Free Republic the timid, fair weather conservatives who shrinks back from the fray when it gets too heated.

They have a need to have their leftism validated by conservatives on conservative forums so they push leftist memes and ideals.

Sure as night follows day. FR is infiltrated by leftists with the intent to keep us from coalescing behind ANYTHING that may hurt Democrats.

Yeah I've noticed that too. They seem to be pretty good at not going to far and never being outright liberal just critical to the conservative side. Always telling us why this isn't the time or the place or the person or issue we want to attack with. At best we are being infiltrated by the ghost of General McClellan.

If you are going to put yourself up front, you should have the brains to deal with this. This guy sounds like an idiot who’s won the lottery and is on his fifth case of Jack Daniels.

It has nothing to do with what the government is doing. However, his foolishness certainly puts everything he’s said into question.

They will continue to go with the short version despite the hoax being exposed. Why? Because even with the long version it is still too lengthy an explanation for Americans to sit through and comprehend.

Bundy’s words are too easily taken out of context and the counter explanation too time consuming.

No, not necessarily a fraud. Just not able to differentiate YET between the truth and a lie.

EVERYTHING the media reports about Bundy and about Obama has to be suspect: because the media hates Bundy and worships Obama. Because the second clause in that statement is correct, the first statement must be true.

In the HEAT of a 24/7 news cycle, anyone might be tempted to rush to judgment.

I say give fellow conservatives a break when they jump the gun like this...it is a natural human response.

The full video along with his radio response has been available most of the day. It doesn’t make what Bundy said any better or any more politically palatable.

If people wish to bury their heads in the sand and think these comments are not absolute political poison even in the very best of context, I guess it’s just further proof that a whole lot of well meaning conservatives have zero political sense.

Talking about “the Negro” and the fact that they haven’t learned how to “pick cotton” and wondering aloud whether they might not have been better off as slaves is just not going to fly. With these comments, Bundy has destroyed himself and tarred a lot of politicians that stood, however tentatively, with him.

I don’t think Bundy is probably much of a hater. He’s from another generation and maybe just hasn’t updated his vocabulary. I can see he was thinking out loud and trying to point out how destructive the social welfare state is, but you just can’t go around saying things like this and think it won’t cause a firestorm that won’t end well for anyone who says it or is associated with it.

This thread reminds me of the Akin threads. Every political realist understood that his idiotic rape comments had destroyed any chance he had to win, yet so many people refused to see political reality. We got 6 more years of Claire because of that.

Many of the same names that sided with Harry Reid here also slammed conservatives as evil ‘purists’ for sticking to principle in the last election. As if that is a bad thing.

It ain’t their first rodeo. Some? Sure some jumped the gun with no ulterior motive. But there is a significant number of people in this who are either leftist/RINO plants or just do not believe in anything but Govt supremacy. And are willing to adopt Saul’s rules verbatim to move their agenda ahead.

Whenever you see a Freeper talk about being ‘offended’ and they aren’t mocking someone for using the term, it’s a safe bet that person is used to using the phrase. Do conservatives run around telling people how offended they are, or do liberals/RINOs?

That’s all one need ask themselves when they see it. Then treat the ‘offended with the respect due.

this is a glittering example of our freedom of speech being diminished. Today, Conservatives have to closely choose their words, or risk even being attacked by people they thought were their allies! Our timidity is what allows the race card to flourish. Bill Cosby and a few others are speaking their minds on this issue, and they are applauded. IMO, this issue needs to be a huge part of the next political campaign. There are more examples of the hideous things, gosnell, education, black on black crime, etc. etc. etc., that blacks have been subjected to, than you can throw a stick @, & they can all be laid squarely @ the feet of the democrat party, if the right feller tells the story.

Akin threads

Akin was a politician running for political office. Bundy is a private citizen with no political aspirations. Akin's comment was repugnant to everyone. Bundy was correct, just clumsy in his expression.

The socialists are filled with horrible temerity when they see us criticizing our own. That is why we supported Akin after he stumbled. Note that the Democrats will defend the indefensible when one of theirs is in trouble. Conservatives need to learn from them.

Watch the old John Wayne movie McClintock.

Because part of the story is about Wayne speaking at the request of the Indians to the government agent why they were in revolt and off the reservation

That being kept on the government doll, being just providen for on the rez was destroying their people and dignity.

I content Bundy was trying to say the same ...

Because it fits the context of Bundys situation...

The way to destroy a man and a people is take there ability or reason to support their-self.

It destroy your self respect...

A free man supports himself. .

A slave is provided for if he complies with his master wishes

Why else would something like this come up in the during the standoff? ..

It would fit in this context...or else it would be an absurd non sequitur at the time.

A guy that is promoting amnesty is just not acceptable on this site. He may not be a politician but he is a voice. Do we just follow like sheep because he has one issue right? Amnesty is an issue that disqualifies a multitude of politicians from being acceptable. How can we accept an individual from spouting this nonsense and condemn those who condemn him?

I agree with Bundy 100% about the evil of government dependence. I just do not think it is true or politically savvy to say it is a “Negro” problem. I can see how a middle class working black guy would get pissed at that comment. Just talk about government dependence, Democrats always try to make everything about race, why help them?
