Feds to Take Over Oregon's Failed $300 Million Health Insurance Exchange [zero enrollees]

The state of Oregon received $303 million in federal grants—more than all but two other states—to build and operate a health insurance exchange, dubbed Cover Oregon, under Obamacare. One of those grants was a $48 million "early innovator" grant for states whose exchanges were intended to serve as models for the nation. The state was among the most enthusiastic about implementing the law, with Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber touting both the law and his state's work building the exchange.

The state's work on its exchange recieved praise throughout the media, and it was reportedly loved by the Obama administration: In May of last year, The Washington Post described it as "the White House's favorite health exchange." On October 1, the day the exchanges launched around the country, Information Week published an adulatory commentary piece on Cover Oregon: "Obamacare Health Exchanges: How Oregon Got It Done."

Oregon didn't get it done. The bar was not set high. It was hardly set at all. The state delayed the opening of its exchange. At the end of October, state officials were still struggling to bring the system online. Gov. Kitzhaber, however, continued with the happy talk. "I think we're in really good shape here in Oregon. Do we have some problems? Yes. Are we concerned? Of course. But I believe we'll come through this very well," he told KATU news.

Cover Oregon didn't come through it at all. There were delays, and then more delays. The exchange never successfully went online. No one ever signed up for private coverage through the system. Reports surfaced showing that independent consultants had warned for years that the ambitious project was likely doomed. The warnings were ignored.

Heck, I'll fix it for a paltry 200 million. Guaranteed.

If I fail, well, no worse than previous.

I can start tomorrow by the way.

And the $303 million went to...what? They just paid salaries and bonuses and kept buying reams of paper and pencils and copy machine toner until the last check bounced..? Is there any change from that $303 million?

How come when it comes to taxpayer funds, the money just kind of vanishes and.....it’s gone?

Hey, Obama’s plan worked and the governor of Oregon proved that he is a totally incompetent marxist.

Well, the jerks in Oregon voted for this clown, and the got the whole circus as well.

Someone made off like a bandit, and the taxpayers get screwed. Don’t worry, though, no one will get punished. It’s government.

I would love to see a state by state tally of all the money that was spent on exchanges, totaled with the federal exchange.

We must be talking billions.

I’m sure they had meetings.

They probably wrote memos.

Maybe even had some outings, you know, team building type stuff.

I've posted this a couple of times before but again it's worth noting:

Subject: The enormity of World War II

During the 3-1/2 years of World War 2 that started with the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941 and ended with the Surrender of Germany and Japan in 1945, the U.S. produced 22 aircraft carriers, 8 battleships, 48 cruisers, 349 destroyers, 420 destroyer escorts, 203 submarines, 34 million tons of merchant ships, 100,000 fighter aircraft, 98,000 bombers, 24,000 transport aircraft, 58,000 training aircraft, 93,000 tanks, 257,000 artillery pieces, 105,000 mortars, 3,000,000 machine guns, and 2,500,000 military trucks.

We put 16.1 million men in uniform in the various armed services, invaded Africa, invaded Sicily and Italy, won the battle for the Atlantic, planned and executed D-Day, marched across the Pacific and Europe, developed the atomic bomb and ultimately conquered Japan and Germany.

It's worth noting, that during the almost exact amount of time, the Obama administration couldn't build a functioning web site.

We're losing lots of money now. But we'll make up for it in volume.

I see:

a “I’m a lumberjack and I’m okay” type lumberjack wearing a man-purse...

...and...

...a dancing red jelly bean with horns.

If that doesn’t say health insurance, then what does?

No government program is ever a failure to a democrat...it’s just ‘underfunded’.
