COLUMBIA, SC U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-Seneca, has agreed to debate his June Republican primary challengers in an event hosted by S.C. Educational Television in collaboration with The State newspaper, The Greenville News and other state newspapers.
ETV announced Thursday that Graham will join the debate, which will take place at 7 p.m. on June 7.
Graham faces six Republican challengers in June's primary as he seeks re-election to a third term. Det Bowers, a retired Columbia pastor, S.C. Sen. Lee Bright, R-Spartanburg, Easley businessman Richard Cash, Orangeburg attorney Bill Connor, Columbia attorney Benjamin Dunn, and Charleston PR executive Nancy Mace are running against Graham for the GOP nomination.
It is unclear how many of the challengers will join Graham in the debate.
The event, three days before the June 10 primary, will mark the first time Graham has debated any of his opponents.
The six challengers have participated in candidate forums across the state. Graham's absence from those forums has drawn ire from some of his opponents.
Democrats state Sen. Brad Hutto of Orangeburg and Jay Stamper of Irmo, and Libertarian Victor Kocher also are running for the seat.
ETV also has planned debates in other contested races including the Superintendent of Education, Lt. Governor, and the debate for the unexpired U.S. Senate seat, currently held by U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, R-Charleston. Were pleased to offer voters the opportunity to hear from the candidates directly in a statewide broadcast, said ETV President Linda OBryon. In addition to the live broadcasts on ETV-HD, the debates will stream live on scetv.org and via participating local newspaper websites to extend the availability of the debates.
Nearly 20 candidates for the races have expressed interest in participating. Finalized dates and times will be announced.

Pay per view could work here....
Miss Linda’ll probably get all flustered and affronted that people would question her record or values and start whipping them with her feather boa.
GET HIM!
What a shocker! An opportunity for the challengers. The Grahamnesty team has made a huge mistake.
He’s a very slimy politician. He’ll have his phony righteous indignation talking points ready on every issue.
Things really are going his way. June 7th is a Saturday night; viewership is likely to be very low compared to a prime time night on SCETV.
One debate televised. Three days before the primary. On International Date Night Number Two!
Doesn’t matter if he does poorly. Not many will see the debate and he will win all the newspaper and TV reviews.
Man, my optimism just took a direct hit. Somebody cheer me up.
These people are very skilled at manipulation and timing. I’m sure both McCain and McConnell (and probably buddy Chuck Schumer) are advising Graham.
And he’ll probably put forth some big initiative too a week or two before the primary, just for a little gravy.
And the moderator will probably be some paid hack who will allow Graham to go on and on about his own brilliance and leadership, while the best challenger will get some question on a local watershed issue or something.
Sounds like Linda’s all puckered up.
“How did you get such a keen understanding of SCETV all the way up there? BUT THAT DIDN’T CHEER ME UP!”
Because the same thing would happen here, and has. It’s the same everywhere. That’s what they always do. Graham is to be protected.
Sorry I didn’t cheer you up but there’s something going on, like carefully timed and laid plans are being enacted.
The candidates, especially Bright, need to be on their game, get under Little Lindsey’s skin and openly mock him on foreign policy and everything else. And I’m sure his wife, John McCain will be in the audience for support.
I’ll try. SCETV’s audience is mostly no more than South Carolina’s tiny liberal community, except when beg-fest time comes & they briefly air shows that non-liberal non-gay & non-greentea drinking folks might actually watch.
The only watchers of Flimsey Tinkerbelle at that debate will be those who want him/her/it to win. The challengers will I hope by then have lined up a different debate venue where they will dare him/her/it to debate without the benefit of a fawning lefty moderator.
Flimsey wants the challengers to think he/she/it already owns the terms of the debate. I think they will prove him/her/it wrong.
Keep the faith, bro.
Nancy is desperate...
Divide and conquer. It’s sad. Solid red state like Nebraska that gave us Chuck Hagel. I say go for the looker(mace). It would emphasize the ugly women in the other party. Mickulsky? Jackson-Lee? Gag me with a spoon!
Good.
He does a dynamite cross examination of a witness--even Supe Court nominees. Then he's vote the liberals right in after hard questioning, posturing for the cameras.
Be careful what you want
he's a slippery one.
Lindsey Graham has and will continue to fool a large majority of SC people, who are grossly uninformed.
But we could sure use some leadership, like from Sarah Palin.
