McConnell’s Tea Party Challenger Caught Attending a Cockfighting Rally
ABC News ^ | April 25, 2014 | By Shushannah Walshe

The Tea Party candidate challenging Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to a primary challenge has been caught in an undercover video attending a cockfighting rally last month and there is evidence that he lied repeatedly about the event.

Matt Bevin, who is seeking to wrest Kentucky’s Republican Senate nomination from McConnell, and his campaign have said they thought it was a state’s rights rally he attended in Corbin, but in the undercover video from WAVE 3 News it’s clear what the event is about with signs supporting the legalizing of cockfighting. Bevin even speaks right after a cockfighting activist who explained clearly why they were: “For the sole purpose of legalizing gamecock fighting at the state level.”

The video emerged less than a month before the May 20 primary vote.

One could make the argument that being against rooster fights is being bigoted and against diversity, just to turn things against the liberals.

Cockfighting is very popular among Mexicans, is it not?

It's a diversity thing. White libs don't understand.

The problem is that this is like "Macacca" or "legitimate rape."

It's actually dumber than those, because he had time to think about it before he stood up to speak at that rally.

Maybe, but candidates have to be smart enough to understand that its the way it is, and they have to have the intelligence and instincts to avoid these kinds of traps. This will probably sink yet another candidacy, like Akin and Mourdock. Its really a shame to have candidates who are right on the issues but don't have the brains to run a smart campaign.

Like we learned with Obama and the other 'Rats, we aren't going to beat them playing the nice guy. We can play the gentlemen in these campaigns and go down to defeat after defeat. Because while we're making nice, they are kicking us in the nuts. We've got to avoid being sacked and hit them right back, only harder.

Well this smells of McConnell. But Bevin’s handlers should have kept him away from the event due to how the optics would play. And if Bevin lied, well that’s not a very bright thing to do.

They will do anything to keep their RINOs in power to ensure a Hillary/Profressive Rule and Jackboot on the American People. All Tea Party People should take warning—anything you do and say will be parced and make to turn you into a Bigot Yahoo who deserves prison—ask Clive Bundy if you don’t believe me. They are Chickens! Not Dogs. We eat them? This was more a rally rather than a real chicken fight I believe. BUT it stands as a warning for the right. Now is the time to dismiss all who do not stand for the way things are now.

“Twenty years from now, we will all remember the time when the East Coast con-man thought so little of Kentuckians that he pathologically lied to us about absolutely everything until an undercover camera caught him red-handed at a cockfighting rally,” McConnell press secretary Allison Moore said.”

Such statements suggest a campaign that knows it is in trouble. McConnell’s team surely realizes they not only need to fend off Bevin’s challenge, they have to destroy him so completely as a viable option that they have a chance to bring enough of the base home in time to beat Allison Grimes in the general.

I don’t think it’s going to work. McConnell is probably going to be beat Bevin (I haven’t look at the latest numbers, just a gut feeling), but I don’t think he’s going to beat Grimes. IMHO, McConnell is what Lugar was in Indiana a couple years back, only on steroids: a guy in office so long he’s perceived as having long forgotten his state roots (and values) and become a creature of the Beltway.

(BTW, I have no love for cockfighting or the like, just commenting on McConnell’s response).

We raised chickens when I was a boy. We enjoyed seeing our roosters square off an go at it. Of course, none of these fights were fatal as we didn't strap on steel spurs or other sadistic stuff.

The winner is clear when the loser runs off. If cocks are allowed to fight naturally, I'd see nothing wrong with legalizing the sport.

That being said, Bevin probably just assured the turtle's re-election. Sad.

After Obama’s long storied history with Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers, nothing matters anymore. Not even what positions you say you support (Obama lied about all of them).

But I suppose we have to hold “our” candidates to the old standard when even the RINOs aren’t playing by those rules anymore.

The polling I see is dismal

Recent polling supposedly shows Landreau, Pryor and Graham points ahead of their challengers.

However, a closer look as some of the polling seems to indicate that the polling was manipulated. In other words, the procurer of the poll got the results they desired.

Conclusion: Don't trust polls at this stage of the races.

1. Bevin didn’t attend a cockfight. It was a rally. For states rights.

2. McConnell’s election team is working with Stephen Colbert to put out attack ads (it’s in the article!)

“...steel spurs & other sadistic stuff”

Why cockfighting is illegal in most states. Otherwise, roosters just square off & when one breaks and runs, the fight is over, no fatalities.

Couldn’t help noticing that the rally took place near Harlan Sanders’ home, so here goes:

“Howdy folks! This is your old friend Colonel Sanders. After the cockfight is over, drop by KFC and try our new, delicious “Bucket O’Loser” Special! Guaranteed fresh as all getout, with that unique adrenalin tang! See y’all there!”

(Anyway, Matt Bevin for U.S. Senate!)

This is ABC which has experienced declining numbers of viewers for the last decade. Most of its viewers are in the NY city metro area and the Washington DC metro area. Kentuckians by and large don’t watch it and those that do are not energized against Matt Bevin for stroking the gamecock votes.

A report two weeks ago revealed that the gamecock association heavily influenced 60,000 critical votes in KY. McConnell had pushed through legislation barring gamecock and dog fighting in all 50 states, hence gamecock fans in KY were furious and invoked states rights to counter McConnell’s edict. Matt Bevin shows up to give a speech about states rights and the liberal media goes berserk, and of course McConnell is their guy.

The real question is whether this jab will hurt Bevin. I think it helps him because now those 60,000 gamecock members in KY are in his column.

I don’t like cock or dog fighting but in the bigger picture I think Bevin is far better to have as a senator than McConnell. I also think he means it when he says this is a state rights issue. The federal government has no business telling Kentuckians what they do with their chickens unless it affects public health in the food supply.
