Vladimir Putin Caesar and Our Great Geo-political Turning Point
American Thinker ^ | April 25, 2014 | Selwyn Duke

Posted on 04/25/2014 1:08:54 PM PDT by Paladins Prayer

We are witnessing, I believe, a turning point in geopolitical history, one future historians may analyze as we have the Roman Empire’s fall. Vladimir Putin is making a move -- and it’s not just against Ukraine. It may not be merely a move against Eastern Europe. It’s not even, perhaps, just a move against US world dominance.

There was a time when the USSR was the “evil empire,” a godless Golgotha. But that was then. Now, in 2013-14, Putin has seen fit to say, in his December State of the Nation speech, “Many Euro-Atlantic countries have moved away from their roots, including Christian values. …Policies are being pursued that place on the same level a multi-child family and a same-sex partnership, a faith in God and a belief in Satan. This is the path to degradation.”

[...]Yet it isn’t just that Putin is restarting the Cold War. Nor is he just an old-line KGB Bolshevik, as some stuck in commentary amber have suggested. He’s smart enough to realize that Marxism, as the kids today would say, is just so “played.”

He more likely wants to be the next czar.

This is by far the best analysis of Putin and Russia I've read so far. The author makes the point that Putin may see being the next Charlemagne as the path to historic greatness. A must-read.

Funny. I agree with him. Maybe a Czar is better than a pot-smoking, basketball playing, Islamophilic anti-western liar.

Who knows.

Couldn’t get the whole article as I don’t belong to American Thinker.

Or he may be using Christianity to justify his own position and to gel the disparate elements that he wants to bring back into the Russian empire. He may not want anyone to notice that his love of Christ was apparently in abeyance when he, like his father, joined the KGB, and worked for them for over sixteen years, becoming a Colonel in the secret police. Their mission was to maintain the communist party and to deny citizens their God given natural rights. Similarly, he may not want us to notice that he’s robbed the Russian people blind, as is not a typical Christian goal, stealing enough to make himself one of the richest men in the world. Nor would he want you to know that his own secret police work closely with the Iranian secret police. And no doubt, being the super Christian that he is, would he want us to notice that it’s his policies to help the mad mullahs of Iran get a nuclear “program” for “energy.” Yup, he’s the Charlemagne.

You don’t have to belong. I posted the wrong link. Here is the one to the full article: http://americanthinker.com/2014/04/vladimir_putin_caesar_and_our_great_geopolitical_turning_point.html

Sorry about that.

The author explores your point — that it all just may be a pose.

It helps to actually read the article.

Right. A bloody handed murder of journalists and anyone else who got in his way, who murdered by the truckload in the KGB, is going to save Western Civilization. Pull the other one.

I doubt Charlemagne had a band of bus station drunks leading the way. Kidnapping the Germans today was a brilliant move on their part.

Again, the author examines the possibility that everything Putin is doing is just a pose. But I take it you’re a “commenter,” not a reader (which is a bit like being a talker but not a thinker).

I don’t belong to American Thinker either, but got the whole article by clicking “read more” at the bottom of the intro. I find it ironic that he is promoting the same values that many at FR believe in the most. Requires serious thought and possible soul searching. I have noticed a resurgence of Marxism/Leninism promotion among some far left Socialist groups in the US. Timed to the Ukraine initiative???

“want us to notice that he’s robbed the Russian people blind”

Like or not, Russia’s economy has improved greatly under Putin, even with the corruption.

Corruption, I might add, that is FAR less today, than it was in the last decades of the Soviet Era.

No one under 35 actually lived the Soviet era, beyond some school propaganda. What they see today is a Russia that has gradually improved their entire lives.

(Kind of like no one in America under 35 remembers when America’s heartland was dotted with innumerable factories, and the jobs that went with them.)

When you have a leader that apologizes for this country, is weak, and wants to destroy the greatness of this country, of course a country and a leader like Putin will try to take our place, why shouldn't he?

Its ironic but there is no connection between Marxist/Leninists in the US I know of and people who are just sick and tired of the mindless political correctness, attacts on Judaeo-Christian values and the nuclear family by this administration, and, to be honest, the preceeding three also.

Its is refreshing to hear comments like Putin makes on this subject regardless of the source. Our own leaders would do well to re-assess their pro-atheistic attitudes.

Immediate aftermath of the collapse of a totalitarian communist system was going to be disarray in no matter who was in charge. The low oil prices certainly didn’t help Russia.

By now former slaves of Russia like Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have all managed to get their things in order and they did that without instituting total control over media, crushing of every dissent or turning elections into mockery or without the support of oil money. These countries can do it while retaining rule of law unlike Russia where law is a formality and steps aside when a phone-call from the rulers comes in.

Putin’s reign has managed very little in actual fundamental development although things certainly look different after more than a decade of high oil prices. By disallowing free enterprise (or a general freedom) Russia is not going to be anything more than a petrostate, although a petrostate at a time of high oil prices.

From the article :
"Even now, not satisfied with placing another great nail in marriage’s coffin, our militant secularists are making moves to legitimize pedophilia and bestiality. It’s onward Luciferian soldiers."

And history shows that those who allow Lucifer to steal a march on them are always forced to choose between the lesser of two evils having already made their choice between good and evil.

JMHO

~Russia is not going to be anything more than a petrostate, although a petrostate at a time of high oil prices~

To prove your idea wrong, just compare a GDP dynamics of Russia and the rest of traditional petrocracies. Also mind that Russia is much more popolous than the rest of these nations which means the oil profits might add lesser to otherall economy but somehow it works the other way in Russia.
