Rand Paul calls for Republican shakeup (after Team Romney meeting)
Boston Herald ^ | April 26, 2014 | Hillary Chabot

Rand Paul calls for Republican shakeup
- ‘Evolve, adapt or die’
(after meeting Team Romney yesterday)

"National Republicans — still smarting from Democratic
drubbings in the last two presidential contests
— face a stark scenario of “evolve, adapt or die”
as they plot their next campaign to take back
the Oval Office in 2016, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky
told the Herald yesterday in an exclusive interview.

Paul ... said the Republican Party has to rewrite
its standard platform to woo minorities
into a broad coalition that can win national races.

A Tea Party favorite and a former ophthalmologist,
Paul hasn’t been entirely welcomed by his colleagues,
who have blasted him for what they see
as an isolationist stance on national security
and a hands-off approach to the war on drugs.

Added Paul with a smile, “I think debate is healthy.
I prefer it if they don’t call me names.
I hate to be called names.”

I do not see why you guys can’t see reality. We are a different Country. We are going to have to readjust SOME viewpoints in order to obtain the power to make the most important changes. What don’t you people understand., We are not the same Country you grew up in. All the whining and hand wringing on the world will not change that fact.

Another of the increasing number of times Paul is trying to be all things to all people.

The trouble is, he is painting his positions thinner and thinner. Soon, they will be so thin that they have little substance.

The Republican Party needs leadership that stands for something, rather than tries to be all things. Of course, finding what the current Republican Party stands for is quite a task. They appear more Dem-lite. Thus, why should voters go for ‘lite’ when the real thing is the opposition candidate in the presidential election?

Amnesty, Shamnesty. Is that what you got?

Maybe you should actually be made aware of Rand Paul’s position on immigration.

“I do not support amnesty, I support legal immigration and recognize that the country has been enriched by those who seek the freedom to make a life for themselves. However, millions of illegal immigrants are crossing our border without our knowledge and causing a clear threat to our national security. I want to work in the Senate to secure our border immediately. In addition, I support the creation of a border fence and increased border patrol capabilities.

Immigrants should meet the current requirements, which should be enforced and updated. I realize that subsidizing something creates more of it, and do not think the taxpayer should be forced to pay for welfare, medical care and other expenses for illegal immigrants. Once the subsidies for illegal immigration are removed, the problem will likely become far less common.

I support local solutions to illegal immigration as protected by the 10th amendment. I support making English the official language of all documents and contracts.

Millions crossing our border without our knowledge constitutes a clear threat to our nation’s security. Instead of closing military bases at home and renting space in Europe, I am open to the construction of bases to protect our border.”

Not sure if you forgot the sarcasm tag or not. I don't see the Tea Party movement as whining and hand wringing. Our Founders didn't either.

I think unfortunately, future history books will be designating this time in American History as "The Rise of the Militia".

"I want to work in the Senate " ... Senator, you ARE in the Senate. How much have you done to 'secure the border'?

Any time they bring up 'secure the border', it is a canard. It sounds good, but it means little.

Until they get to the point of saying, "Secure the border, then we will discuss other immigration issues", they are just trying to pull the wool over the anti-amnesty crowds' eyes.

Frankly, you can keep equivocating on your candidate's ideas on illegals - whatever. The fact remains, even with his or any of the others' protestations about AMNESTY as a specific goal and how they're ALWAYS against it, it is ALWAY followed by some equivocating 'however', 'but' and so forth. It's always 'work visas', some sort of 'legalization' or other appeasing action that still leaves us with the eventual drive to legalize them all - to a tee.

Even in your arguments you've redefined illegals who are criminals as plain old 'immigrants' as if they've followed some sort of official process - laughable.

They won't secure the borders before they take whatever vote-getting action they want to impose, they won't throw out ANY of them, NOT ONE.

I could argue with you all day long. I hope you respond and continue. I'd be more than willing to waste your time so that you do not infect some other poor unsuspecting fool with your drivel. I won't ever change my mind about it so have at it.

Paul makes the same old racist progressive mistake.

The Republican party succeeds when it offers equality of opportunity, and equality before the law. It fails when it offers *some* people advantages over *other* people, as *groups*, not individuals. Thus, “big tent” means failure.

The Republican way: “Any of you children might someday grow up to become president.”

The Democrat way: “None of you white children should become president, because you’re white. Black and Hispanic children should become president, because you are black and Hispanic. Especially if you are LGBT.”

Republicans treat individual citizens as individuals. Democrats, and apparently a lot of liberal Republicans, and now Rand Paul, just cannot get over the idea of “group-think”, that it is so much *easier* to deal with homogeneous groups “that are all the same”.

It may be easier for them, but it is still very wrong.

“So is the gop going to “evolve” a method for matching Democrat vote fraud with vote fraud of its own?”

You make it look so easy to the winning process, you are right, simple and to the point.

“Rather than trying to divide people into groups and then attempt to out-pander the Dums, we should, with TRUTH, appeal to all. All humans, no matter how corrupted, still possess a moral conscience and a rational mind. All humans have the potential, when confronted with the light, to be persuaded and change. That should be our single objective. That is the power of Conservatism. . .we should use it! “

AMEN!
