Green campaigning today is totally unsuited to political and economic realities. Where is the vision in environmental radicalism? Only by thinking very big will we save the world.
Its natural to see US inaction on climate change as another symptom of our broken politics. The United Nations climate change panel has announced the world needs major US emissions controls on greenhouse gases to avoid global catastrophe. It didnt happen when the Democrats controlled Congress, and it isnt any more likely in this Congress, which is well stocked with climate-change deniers.
That isnt the whole story, though. The whole story is worse. Doing something about it will be much harder than even fixing Washington. Mainstream environmental politics, which took shape around an old generation of problems and has had the radicalism bred out of it in favor of pragmatism, is not doing to be much help. Ironically, recovering a more radical strand of environmental politics may be the practical way to get a grip on the new challenges of climate change.
The latter is happening amid a perfect storm of problems that all have the same basic logic: a system that was supposed to be self-correcting turns out not to be. In economic life, market signals ignore greenhouse gases, so the carbon economy keeps accumulating wealth. Say what you want, he sure could play that banjo in "Deliverance" though.
Looks like a squealer to me.

Uh Jed, that’s because there ARE no alternatives to
capitalism, that work.
“The market is systematically failing in a time when there seem to be no alternatives to capitalism.”
Yes, because we all know the Soviet system left behind a pristine environmental landscape that the world would be proud of.
Just a reminder to peeps....one of the last ‘transmissions’ by OBL had to do with ‘environmentalism’ if I’m not mistaken. Soon after that, a moron shot up the Discovery Network building.
IOW...they want the ‘state controlled’ model of the Chinese.
LOL!!! I almost spewed on my screen when I read that!
The United States began as a collective-action problem: After Independence, thirteen semi-autonomous states split over taxation, trade, and foreign affairs. Each one had good reason to spin off and protect its own interests, even though cooperation would be better for everyonejust like with climate change. Early Americans had to invent America to become it. Now everyone has to invent a world that is worth becoming.Where does this lowlife get off with this bunch of absolute lies?
Been a trend for the last century and a half, to excuse mass murder with the word “environment”.
Double down on stupid.
