We reported on Tuesday about the major demographic problem facing Republicans. So, how can the GOP start winning larger shares of non-white voters? Reforming the immigration system might not be the answer.
Why not? Because reforming the nation's immigration laws could very well create a whole bunch of new Democrats, including in some key swing states. Let's break it down.
The rise in the Hispanic population in the United States is problematic for the GOP, but so far it's been quite slow. In 2004, Hispanics made up 6 percent of all voters. That ticked up to 7 percent in 2008 and 8 percent in 2012.

The Republicans have a huge potential of non-Hispanic voters in the swing states especially the midwest who they are alienating. It is better to have illegals concentrated in blue states or in deep red states and not entice them to live, work and vote in any state with legal status.

And that is why Dems want amnesty for illegals SO badly..they wouldn’t have to rely on dead voters anymore..if the GOP allows this to happen, they will NEVER win another election again
Both my mother and my wife were legal immigrants to this country. I am certain others who legally immigrated here will be offended by any legalization of people who entered illegally. Perhaps it is time for a 3rd party.

Yep. It’s all about the big money boys. Whenever they want $$$$ ... the RINO’s work hard to obtain.
How on earth anyone w/ a brain thinks amnesty = more R’s in office is beyond me. Lose the base and make more D’s in the process.
There is no up side for us or the U.S.
These “stupid” Republicans can do nothing without the support of their very dumb base of primary voters.
But if they stop it they'll lose anyway, because "you" aren't producing enough future voters to keep them elected.
I’m convinced that every person elected to congress AND runs for re-election does so because they’ve gotten a taste of the power and perks and have become corrupted. The honest ones go back home and never run again.
At this point the Republicans are TOTALLY OPEN LOOP in the House and are not about to listen to the people that gave them their majority.
The ONLY hope, at least that I can see, is to DEFEAT some of these leaders in their Primaries. Cantor and Boehner come to mind first. If one or both can be defeated, and it’s clear that Amnesty is the reason, then the wishy-washy types in the House Republican caucus will be SCARED TO DEATH, and may very well get the message - which is that NO REPUBLICAN IS SAFE, if they support amnesty.
Texas was a Democratic stronghold back in the fifties and sixties. What was the proportion of the Hispanic vote back then as compared to now?
