I'm no UKIP supporter but Farage is a breath of fresh air

Whenever Tony Benn was asked a question you knew he was going to answer it. The same goes for Boris or Nigel. You might not agree with what they say, but at least they speak in English and not in some awful double-speak where you cannot begin to fathom what point they are trying to get across. I know it should be the principles and not the personalities that stand out but it is a lot easier to understand and to evaluate policies if they are advocated by someone who genuinely believes what they are saying and is able to put together a coherent argument.

In the past 30 years, politics has become increasingly concerned with image and opinion polls and worryingly divorced from the issues themselves. I am not a supporter of UKIP but I do find it refreshing to hear Nigel Farage when he is interviewed because he communicates in a straightforward, human manner rather than in sound bites. It is the same with Boris Johnson – he is a philandering toff with no idea what life is like for the majority of the people he represents yet there is something endearing about someone who says things as gloriously lacking in PR spin as: "my chances of being PM are about as good as the chances of finding Elvis on Mars, or my being reincarnated as an olive" or "my policy on cake is pro having it and pro eating it".

I've spent lots of time watching him on youtube...particularly his speeches on the floor of the European Parliament. He makes good points...*very* good points. But in today's real world of electoral politics all he can do is ensure that that unrepentant Maoist,”Red Ed” Milliband, will be the next PM of Great Britain.

Boris Johnson is a funny guy. He’s kind of like a slightly calmer version of Gary Busey.

If I remember correctly, he beat out Ken the Red.

I saw an interview where the interviewer was pressing Johnson for answers on some subject and Johnson kept going off topic.

The interviewer got mad and Johnson told him “I’d called misdirection like magicians use and I don’t understand why it shouldn’t work in politics as well as magic”.

Nigel mopped up the floor with Nick Clegg in his two debates with him. I watched both. Great political theater. And Farge is a formidable debater.

But in today's real world of electoral politics all he can do is ensure that that unrepentant Maoist,”Red Ed” Milliband, will be the next PM of Great Britain.i>

The polls taken after the two debates with Clegg showed that a large portion of Labor voters agreed with Nigel. The Euro skeptics are gaining ground all over the EU. The May 22 EU parliamentary elections will be a watershed event throughout the EU. People are getting sick of being governed by a bunch of unknown bureaucrats in Brussels.

Here are the links to the two debates; Enjoy:

1st debate

The second debate where Farage destroyed Clegg worse than the first one

Yes,I've heard all that.Let's see what happens. My money's on Farage taking just enough votes from Cameron that Milliband will win.Notice that I'm not saying that he *should* lose....I'm just saying that he *will*.

The next UK general election is scheduled to be held on 7 May 2015. I am referring to the coming EU parliamentary elections on May 22, 2014. UKIP will be a minor player in the 2015 elections and won't have a significant impact on the result. It would be remarkable if they were to win a few seats in Parliament. UKIP has never held a seat in the House of Commons.

The Tories have promised a referendum on whether the UK should remain in the UK or not, but it is not scheduled until after the 2015 elections.

Notice that I'm not saying that he *should* lose....I'm just saying that he *will*.

It depends on the economy at the time. Labor stands a good chance of winning after 5 years of the Tories. The impact of Farge is that he is forcing the Tories and the other political parties to move in his direction.

Mildly curious how you came to post here an article from the Mid Devon Gazette, a tiny local weekly in the deepest rural south-west of England, with a circulation of 12,000 - which just happens to be my local newspaper!

Clegg’s a shockingly bad debater for an UK politician.

He needs to create some depth in the UKIP and mentor his "junior varsity". If anything happens to Nigel, UKIP may collapse.

In which election? Next month? May 2015? Or both?
