Republicans nominated Barbara Comstock on Saturday to succeed longtime congressman Frank Wolf in Virginia's 10th Congressional District, turning away a slate of contenders who said they would be a more conservative choice.
Ms. Comstock, a former Wolf staffer who represents McLean in the House of Delegates, will face Democrat John Foust in a November general election expected to draw national attention.
Ms. Comstock had been the GOP front-runner since announcing her candidacy, winning support from most of the GOP establishment.

I’ve worked with Barbara in past political battles (against Kerry in particular, and a few Senators). She is the best opposition research warrior that has ever existed in either party. Much of what she came up with ended up in ads from everything from Kerry’s windsurfing to the Swift Vets.
She voted for Obama in the Rat primary? Wow. Northern Virginia has been moving left in a hurry and this would probably help her election chances. Would she be another GOP Rep who has to be endlessly dragged back to the right?
I live in great falls and voted for her yesterday.
She isn’t Ted Cruz, but she is a very pro business, pro second amendment, lower taxes, fewer regulations, pro energy, pro life, less entitlements kind of person.
Bob Marshall won my voting place, Frederick County. Kudos to the Tea Party for their Get Out the Vote effort. I caught three Democrats (people who had previously voted in Democratic primary) trying to vote in our primary, in their own Operation Chaos. They had to renounce their former evil ways to vote in our primary.
Gotta love the claim of “grassroots” support. This was entirely an election of party hacks and hard-core activists. . .
Well, maybe, but GOA endorsed Bob Marshall:http://www.goapvf.org/endorsements/bob-marshall
What is she like on amnesty? Ann Coulter said she voted against tuition or driving for illegals. That is why I was not sure because Coulter often is hit and miss on specific races.
Comstock is better than Cantor considering the makeup of her district.
Not sure what she is like. She isn’t perfect, but then again who is these days? She is pro business which is usually a good thing, but with respect to amnesty, can be a problem.
I and my wife are not party hacks, neither are our neighbors. So not sure where you get your information from.
Observation. I saw the same bunch of regular party activists and hacks I see at County Committee meetings. Those of us who were “merely” Tea Party types were give a significant hassle when registering. . .
She had broad appeal.... she’ll make a great Congressman. She’s been my Delegate in Richmond for a number of years. Conservative record and she knows how to win.
You know she has some lifetime conservative credentials. However, what makes me cringe is the K Street lobby/RINO types supported her strongly; and that gave me pause. These are the same people that gave us our current governor, by helping our past governor and smearing Cucinelli.
