In Poorest States, Political Stigma Is Depressing Participation in Health Law
New York Times ^ | April 26, 2014 | By JACKIE CALMES

Posted on 04/27/2014 6:18:26 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Inside the sleek hillside headquarters of Valley Health Systems, built with a grant from the health care law, two employees played an advertisement they had helped produce to promote the law’s insurance coverage for young, working-class West Virginians.

Health professionals, state officials, social workers, insurance agents and others trying to make the law work for uninsured Americans say the partisan divisions and attack ads have depressed participation in some places. They say the law has been stigmatized for many who could benefit from it, especially in conservative states like West Virginia that have the poorest, most medically underserved populations but where President Obama and his signature initiative are hugely unpopular.

Many of the uninsured were also deterred from participating by cultural factors: unfamiliarity with insurance, computer illiteracy, Appalachian isolation and, most of all, cost. But also at play was hostility to Mr. Obama.

“The president is definitely unpopular here,” said Jeremiah Samples, assistant to the secretary at the State Department of Health and Human Resources. “I would not discount it as a factor; I have heard folks discuss it.”

If you like your health plan, you’re a racist because you don’t like my health plan.

Always keep in mind that there is no depth so deep
or slimey that a Prog won’t plumb it, it’s their
natural home.

NYT as usual:
The article goes to great length to trash republicans and includes a picture of a dentist pulling a tooth. But, ACA covers no dental procedures such as extractions.

The Affordable Care Act

Not so affordable.

How can you participate in “affordable” health care if it’s not affordable?
Of course, there are subsidies for the poorer working class folks, but not everyone is looking for a government hand out.

So the nasty Republican ads are responsible for the low enrollment ,not the fact that Obamacare is a piece of **** !

Even if subsidized, the deductible of most policies make them useless to regular working people, of which I am one.

How can you participate in “affordable” health care if it’s not affordable?

If you're worth tens of millions (as Osama Obama will be after his next book is published in April 2017) and the taxpayers are paying every *dime* of your health care costs,it's wonderfully affordable.

New York Times - the paper of liberal elites for liberal elites ... In short - according to the New York "we're liberal elites' Times - IF ONLY everyone would vote for democrats it'll all get better. Do it 'our' way.... Isn't that the bullsh*t democrats have been telling inner city blacks for sixty years? They want us to live on promises of how it'll get better if we just dump conservative ideas and values.

Well, it's worked for blacks, right?

There’s no good reason these high deductible policies should cost as much as they do.

A few years ago I could shop for health insurance and have a hundred policies to choose from at various levels of coverage. Now, maybe 15 or so to choose from and none of them very affordable.

NYT as usual: The article goes to great length to trash republicans

Setting the stage for non-stop Republican bashing between now and Nov 4. The RATS have one theme - "If you don't vote to keep Santa Clause and his elves in power, then the Repubs are going to take all the goodies away from you, and remember it is the Repubs that have all the money, and never forget the Repubs are the party representing the 1%. We are only trying to take that money from the Repubs and redistribute it to you, the hard working Americans that built this country."

Warren: What Republicans want to take away

CLASS WARFARE - This all the RATS have to run on in 2014. Just like Hitlery - or her people - they cannot name ONE SINGLE ACCOMPLISHMENT during her reign as SOS. But oh what good intentions she had and what a horrible place the world was when she took over after GWB. /s

And last but not least before the American LIV fall for this crap they need to be introduced to some bare facts - 50 Richest Members of Congress

If I am counting correctly 7 out of the top 10 have a RAT clearly affixed to their name for the latest data analyzed (2012).

In rural Kentucky, people were told that if they signed up for Obamacare, they could go see the dentist EVERY MONTH! Wow! Lies, lies, all lies.

Either the NYT has no concept of what an American’s commitment to Liberty is — or it is determined to eliminate commitment to Liberty by dropping all reference to it from the public discussion.
