Good thing I scanned the thread before replying. I was thinking how unusual a tornado is in El Paso, Texas. Evidently there’s an El Paso, Arkansas?

Prayers up for those in harm’s way. Stay safe.

Wow, that debris is pretty chewed up. Trees are still standing relatively intact nearby, so the path looks to have been fairly narrow at that point, not that that’s any consolation to those who took a direct hit.

This has been forecast for a while. Do most have a reinforced area for storm shelter, in their homes or in public buildings to which they could have gone?

I can’t imagine facing a high probability of this sort of thing with every Spring that comes, without some means of protecting myself, my family and my animals.

Some have storm shelters...many don’t. It looks like many were caught off guard while driving. A vehicle is the last place you want to be...reports are that many cars/semis were swept off of the road.

I recall one of the few really bad ones that have hit in NC, in the eastern part of the state, a woman got in her bathtub for shelter, her house was leveled, according to her she “rode” the tub out into the woods and landed in a tree.

If you don’t have a shelter...the best place to go is the bathroom. In a violent tornado such as this one...you really need to be below ground.

The plumbing and hard tile surfaces are presumed to be more sturdy but I don’t really know if that applies any longer with fiberglass tub enclosures and PVC plumbing. Center of the house on the ground floor, no exposure to an exterior wall with no windows is what I’ve always been told, that is if you don’t have a basement.

That is correct...they use to say that the pipes in the walls helped support the room, but like you said lighter material used now is useless in supporting the structure.
