Renaming Racism (Compares Cliven Bundy to KKK gunman Frazier Glenn Cross)
The Houston Chronicle's The Peace Pastor ^ | April 26, 2014 | Rev. Marty Troyer

Posted on 04/27/2014 4:09:27 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Overt acts of obvious racism have been in the news lately. Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, Frazier Glenn Cross’s anti-semitic shootings in KC and now recent revelations of LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling prohibiting his girlfriend from publicly associating with blacks.

We can count each of these as classic definitions of racism: prejudice against another based on skin color and race.

This classic definition of racism has been said to be behind us, buried in the time of Jim Crow, lynchings and Bull Conner.

We were wrong to ever believe they were “behind us.”

But I’m less concerned about those overt racists who still live among us, and more concerned that we’ll allow the presence of overt Racism in some to insulate us from our own much needed work.

You see, most of us can easily distance ourselves from such overt racism. We are, after all, not racists! They are “those bad ones.” And we are “the good ones.”

I caution us all, starting with myself, from pointing fingers too rapidly.

Instead, I invite us to consider searching for a more nuanced and complete understanding for racism and consider renaming it. If by “racism” we mean only those terrible things said and done by the likes of Cliven, Cross and Sterling, we’re missing the largest portion of the iceberg which haunts us dangerously under the surface....

I cancelled my subscription to The Blaze.

Money talks alright, but how could anyone trust these pathetic people again who will gleefully stab us in the back for saying a presumed naughty PC word?

Instead of thinking about racism as something we need to have removed (like tonsils . . . racialization is something we need to cleanse ourselves of daily, like flossing our teeth. This analogy empowers us to be proactive rather than experience paralysis from seeing our complicity in racialized structures.

"I know I know!"

Yes, Oprah how can we be proactive? What's your idea?

(paraphrase)"Well, to end racism old white folks will just have to die. Introduce old white folks to, like you know, what Rev. Marty Troyer said.. the liberating love of Jesus. And do it ASAP!"

Yeah Winfrey makes sense. She's right. That's what it will take. But who's willing to do that?

"We're trying, we trying," shout the Knockout Game teams.
