A 12-Year-Oldís Trek of Despair Ends in a Noose at the Border
The New York Times ^ | Jim Dwyer

Posted on 04/27/2014 5:39:37 PM PDT by ObamahatesPACoal

Noemi Álvarez Quillay took the first steps of the 6,500-mile journey to New York City from the southern highlands of Ecuador on Tuesday, Feb. 4, after darkness fell.

A bashful, studious girl, Noemi walked 10 minutes across dirt roads that cut through corn and potato fields, reaching the highway to Quito. She carried a small suitcase. Her grandfather Cipriano Quillay flagged down a bus and watched her board. She was 12.

So the moral of the story is it’s dangerous trying to sneak into other people’s countries? I kind of knew that already.

I have very little respect for parents that enter the US illegally and ask their 12 year old child to make a trek to the US all by herself, and enter illegally, to join them.

The child and what happened to her is heartbreaking. The parents should be deported.

A 12 year old child doing something most grown-ups would be terrified to even dream about. An amazing story with a tragic ending. If her parents came here legally non of this would have been necessary, a sad situation.

Rest in peace angel.

Poor kid. Her parents abandoned her and then she commits suicide because she was afraid that she would never see them again.

We cannot be the safety valve for all of our southern, socialist neighbors - no free haven to illegals!

These parents are not the kind of people we want living in the US.

They sent a 12 year old on a 6500 mile trip...on foot?

You trust a 12 year old to a coyote to smuggle her into the country?

This is straight down child abuse.

They parents should he found, charged with child neglect, and then deported.

The parents, kid and grandfather obviously had enough to eat wherever they lived.

Bloomberg encouraging illegals to live in New York shares some of the blame. No enforcement of the parent’s employers or deportation.

Where were this girls parents? How in the hell does a nation, supposedly a Christian one treat it's people like so much garbage, encourage them to break the law by illegally entering someone elses country and then complain when something like this happens?

Why is a very rich country like Mexico not providing jobs for its people?

Of course, the media could ask the same thing of America, but we know they won’t.

Here they are, in all their illegal glory:

Noemi’s parents have said little publicly. Her mother, Martha V. Quillay, who works in a hair salon, spoke briefly with a reporter, then curtailed the conversation. Her father, José Segundo Álvarez Yupa, a construction worker, said it was too difficult to discuss. “These are private matters,” he said. “This is a very painful thing. It’s all over. We want to recover, we want to move on.”

Or maybe we should keep illegals out and they can raise their own kids in the countries of their birth.

"The prospect of immigration reform in the United States is also enticing, Mr. Lopez said, because of the belief that anyone already in the country illegally will be allowed to stay."

This story is hardly pro-amnesty. It's the prospect of amnesty that's giving their parents false encouragement and luring these poor children to their deaths from snakebite, and from being raped and beaten by the Mara-Salvatruchas and other human traffickers and narcotraficants who are the most brutal criminals in the Northern Hemisphere. "Amnesty" lures them to misery, disease, slow death by starvation / dehydration in the Sonoran desert, and suicide.

The amnesty-purveyors are responsible for this. Starting with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

I subscribe to International Living and they keep talking about how wonderful Ecuador is. I have been there, to Guayaquil, and it was a bustling city - although I heard it was somewhat dangerous in certain areas.

In fact International Living has articles about Americans living happily close to Quito. I blame the rats for enticing these people with "the roads are paved with gold" ideas. Although, as long as the rats and GOPe are in charge I guess this isn't completely wrong.

Also, I saw a NumbersUSA video a few years back and they clearly showed the folly in trying to import the world. It was fairly frightening.

I agree. Why is Mexico off the hook. Why is the USA the safety net for this country?

Why won’t the Mexicans allow their people to defend themselves from the drug lords?

I hear the Mexicans are brutal to people who slip across their border. This child was from Ecuador. Why would any loving parent send a child on such a dangerous journey? Did the parents travel together to the USA, yet expect a 12 year old to make it by herself? I would imagine they were sending money home to feed her. She was with her grandparents, so she would have been safe. This was selfish of the parents to make this child take this dangerous journey.

Her grandfather Cipriano Quillay flagged down a bus and watched her board. She was 12.

Her grandfather is culpable for his gross negligence in sending a child off in such an irresponsible manner. Ecuador's economy has been growing steadily and has halved the poverty rate in 10 years - the people of Ecuador can stay home and work to achieve the US standard of living. Obama and the Democrats are doing their best to reduce that standard in the meantime, so the task becomes easier every day.
