China threatens to withdraw microblog licences

Political pressure on Sina Weibo, China’s largest microblog, continued to build this week as government regulators threatened to revoke two key licences from its parent company due to pornographic content.

According to Xinhua, the official news agency, China’s state broadcasting authority has threatened to cancel the permits for internet publication and audio and visual dissemination held by Sina Corporation, which owns Sina Weibo, the microblog that has become a thorn in the side of the Chinese government.
