Why It's Okay to Hate Cliven Bundy
American Thinker ^ | 4-28-2014 | J.R. Dunn

Posted on 04/28/2014 4:12:23 AM PDT by servo1969

It has become clear that Cliven Bundy was transgressed by the New York Times, his words taken out of context and retailed in such a way as to mean something they were not. Bundy is no racist, and the attempt to make him look like one is another step downward in the collapse of American national media.

But conservatives still have a right -- in fact, a responsibility -- to be annoyed with Bundy.

To wit: Bundy did not walk, not stumble, did not swerve into the trap set by the New York Times. He was not ambushed, he was not taken by surprise. He instead ran full tilt and threw himself into that trap, exactly like the kid at the end of Million Dollar Hotel.

Bundy sat across from a reporter for the NYT, the most vicious, calculating, untrustworthy, and dishonest nest of vipers in the entire U.S. media network, and talked straight to him about matters of import and controversy, under the impression that he would understand and transmit his thoughts the way that he actually expressed them.

Nobody, a full century into the progressive era, seventy years into the epoch of big government, and fifty years after the mass media turned anti-American as a matter of course, has any right to do this. Nobody has a right to be that stupid, to be that ill-informed, or to be that self-centered.

Granted that Bundy, a lifetime Nevada rancher, is not the epitome of sophistication. He is not the typical Times reader, even for Nevada. He may well have never held a copy of the paper in his hands, much less read it. But that’s no excuse, because the status and nature of the New York Times has become a truism of American political culture.

I think 'hate' is a little strong.
A better title might have been "Why It's Okay to be Annoyed with Cliven Bundy."
Of course a column with that title might not get as many clicks, right?

To be Bundy isn’t the issue. The federal government is the issue.

I am not annoyed with nor do I hate Cliven Bundy. In fact, I truly admire the man. I listed and watched when he made his statement about blacks and the slave issue and understood from the get-go what he meant. It was NOT a racist remark but Mr. Bundy’s opinion of how dependent blacks have become on the gubmit.

I still support and will continue to admire Mr. Bundy until such time HE himself and NOT THE MEDIA proves otherwise.

The “Racist” Sharpton gets feted at the White House and the White “racists” get rolled and condemned by the Nina Burleigh press.

What needs to happen is for this racist accusation needs to blow up in their faces. Smart people need to figure this out. They were about to do “journalistic contortions” to tie Bundy to the KKK murderer. All of a sudden they didn’t have to. Our response needs to be the opposite of their goal. Instead of stripping folks from Bundy we need to see an even greater level of support and it needs to be clearly because we have had enough Alinskyite BS. When their precious race card produces the opposite effect they will quit using it. When they realize that having played the race card turns a situation that was manageable into something seriously out of control perhaps they will reconsider it’s value.

I figured that out after the "I don't recognize the existence of the U.S. government" comment.

Which leads us to ask why anyone is speaking to them (rat media) at all.

The first thing senator Obama did after getting the democrat nomination in 2008 was ban campaign access to Fox News. Outside of conservative circles it wasn't noticed at all.

There is no point for any conservative to deal with 90% of the media. In our information saturated society, there are ways to get the word out, without wasting a moment with the rat media.

How much longer until he is out of the news? Hopefully not long. I guess the NBA owner will overtake the exhaustive coverage of two people who do not deserve even 5 minutes of attention.

we shouldn’t hate or be annoyed with Cliven. He didn’t say anything wrong. Whats annoying are those ppl who want Cliven to wise and up act PC. How long til ppl on the Right realize it doesn’t matter how smart you think you are, the media will make a racist out of you.

Phooey!

I haven't seen so many articles and op eds about the Democrat (Welfare) Plantation as I have in the wake of Bundy's bringing up that most egregious and unconstitutional case of government overreach.

If the government isn't reaching deeply into your life as the price for the "freebies", then they are reaching into your pocket to pay for them. Either way, it is an abuse of Federal power without Constitutional authorization.

Mad? no. A lot of people have had their eyes opened to the new slavery.

The author states:
“Granted that Bundy, a lifetime Nevada rancher, is not the epitome of sophistication.”
As if sophistication is a high aim of human existence.
Origin: 1350–1400; Middle English (adj. and v.) < Medieval Latin sophisticātus (past participle of sophisticāre to tamper with, disguise, trick with words), equivalent to Latin sophistic ( us ) (see sophistic) + -ātus -ate

As for me, I’ll stand with the plain-truth speaking, non-sophisticated, salt-of-the-earth, Bundy et al.

If the smartest amongst us (right wing) can’t even stop the media from being labeled a racist, what chance does Cliven.

The problem isn’t Cliven, the problem is you’re asking an impossible task from our side to wise up

-—As if sophistication is a high aim of human existence.——

Ahhh but...... sophistication is the aim of New Yorkers. To claim sophistication, even if lacking is the very essance of dwelling in NYC

By virtue of the fact one lives in fly over country, especially far away fly over country is de facto unsophisticated.

hell, his wife probably doesn’t even own a little black dress

The author of the article is right, Bundy’s folly was to walk into the trap the Times set. He had to know they were only interested in setting him up, or at least someone around him had to know, and he took the bait. The only way to ever talk to the Times or any other MSM is using carefully scripted sound bites pushing your side of whatever controversy has the NYT talking to you in the first place. These are your firm answers whether they respond to the actual questions asked or not. You never go off script, especially with any hot button topics. Questions on thises subjects are carefully manuevered back to the main talking point. But I’m not mad at Clive, just disappointed. The Right has a lot to learn about the importance of communicating the message in this age of PR. Some of those people around him should have been well aware of this and smart enough to talk with Bundy about dealing with the media.

servo1969:" I think 'hate' is a little strong.

Agreed ! Annoyed is definitely appropriate.
But lets understand why the media addressed his statements; they were looking to conduct a character assasination and Bundy gave them fodder.
The man is an anachronism , isolated on 'the range', a family-centered man, who has seen all of his working neighbors and farmers driven off their property
by BIG Government, our FED Govt. and offerred "chump change" after court action, in FED Courts .
When the FED Govt. bullies you "in their courts" with unlimited financial resources, they just wear you down until you are broke or bankrupt.
This is justice ?
The man is opinionated and stubborn, but he is more than willing to express his true feelings
The media mocks him because he has, and is, a Character with more personality than the media and FED Govt.; and he just proved it !
Neither the FED , nor the media can stand the fact that he wasn't bullied into submission.
