Tell Faith Spotted Eagle that’s NOT what we mean by “laying pipe.”
First we gave them smallpox blankets, then firewater, now this. OHHHH the shame
Maybe they are worried their wimmin will run off with men working on the pipeline, since they will have jobs and $$$.
LOL
Lizzie Warren ain’t that “hot”
I think she shouldn’t worry so much, LOL
It would be more truthful if they spent their energy protesting rape done by United Nations Peacekeepers!
I used to work with a former state trooper who worked around a major reservation. Sexual assault would appear to be rampant enough internal to some reservations without any “Man Camps” anywhere nearby. Alcohol and drugs seem to be more of a trigger.
Rosebud has a pretty big casino, they need to get their PR campaign act together because this kind of press release is embarrassing.
Spotted Eagle is a sexist creep.
Well, hell, lets not build anything anywhere ever again, because if we do it could lead to sexual assaults against women.
Comparing oil worker camps to OWS camps.
Too much wampum.
I bet an infusion of cash into the local tribal council will take care of this problem in no time.
I’m betting that the pipeline will adversely affect the chief’s current income stream in some way.
They are obviously confused. These fools meant “occupy” camps.
This coming from a guy whose tribe features 90 percent unemployment, 90 percent alcoholism rates, and a mortality rate twice the national average.
Having been born here, that makes ME a “Native American.”
Perhaps the lunatics are talking about the Indigenous Peoples, aka Aborigines.
Sadly, you are correct. The rate of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome on the rez is a huge problem too; kids born with congenital defects that guarantee them zero chance of bettering themselves.
My friend, who counsels these people, tells me that wealthy tribes with casinos have their fabulously wealthy 1% and at the bottom, people who have almost nothing. Those Oglala Sioux who sued to have liquor stores removed from the outskirts of their tribal lands because their members were getting t very drunk and wrecking their lives turned around and opened liquor stores on the rez after they won their suit.
A verrrry unlikely statistic.
Now if she'd said one out of three women in her nation had been sexually assaulted, I'd still consider it unlikely but not nearly as much.
One of the dirty little secrets of many reservations is that rape and sexual abuse of children and underage girls, even incest, is rampant.
Here's a decent article on the subject from the NY Times. (!)

It's fascinating to read because of the contortions they make to avoid pointing out who is raping these women. If it were indeed non-native people, you can guarantee that would be the lede. Since it's Indian men, you have to read between the lines.
