Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Blasts ‘Sleazy’ Media Glee Over Sterling’s Private Racism
The Daily Caller ^ | 04/28/2014 | Brendan Bordelon

Posted on 04/28/2014 6:22:30 PM PDT by Hotlanta Mike

NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar attacked the collective outrage emanating from America’s media over Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s alleged racist remarks, calling the publication of a private conversation “sleazy” and wondering why earlier, more public manifestations of racism failed to similarly shock.

In an op-ed published in Time, Abdul-Jabbar explains that we’re witnessing a veritable “finger-wagging Olympics . . . all over the latest in a long line of rich white celebrities to come out of the racist closet.”

“Yes, I’m angry, too,” Abdul-Jabbar admits, “but not just about the sins of Donald Sterling. I’ve got a list.”

I think Kareem kind of gets it -- the power brokers don't care about racism at all. They can happily ignore it. But, if they want to use it as a tool, then it's handy.

Almost anyone can be taken down at any time, and racism is one of the effective ways to do it. There is always more to it than meets the eye, but the bottom line is that the big shots couldn't really care less if Sterling is racist -- if they cared, they would have done something long ago. They didn't.

This is a teachable moment. Too bad the race hustlers got out in front of this mess and wasted it.
I heard Meta World Peace was on Greta with such an attempt. Did anyone here see it?

This is an old school NBA guy that has probably been through far more racism than any of these new jerks that are now complaining.

If racism was really a concern the media would be discussing the nasty hearted comments and politics that emanate from the Congressional Black Caucus and the NAACP, not to mention our current Attorney General and POTUS.

Kareem has it about right. Assuming the tape is legit, he’s got issues and has major consequences on the way. He’s simply in a business where that cannot stand. The person who recorded and leaked the tapes deserves jail time. There are no winners here.

Yup. He knows the students of Alinsky when he sees them. Alinsky openly admitted that he couldn't care less about the poor or minorities. He cared only that they were useful tools for his own gain.

the tape is actually funny.....I take it in that vein....but there's also a truth to be noted...

the truth is that no matter how many laws or regulations or decrees TPTB make, you can not make people accept certain things....

eg...most people will dutifully accept the gay marriage stuff but you have to know that a vast majority dislike and even hate that stuff and when given a chance, they're going to explode....same with race relations....you can force people together but you can not make them like each other...

its better to acknowledge that not everyone is going to like or love you and leave it at that....

Whoa. Check this finisher out:

“So, if we’re all going to be outraged,” the former NBA star concluded, “let’s be outraged that we weren’t more outraged when his racism was first evident. Let’s be outraged that private conversations between people in an intimate relationship are recorded and publicly played. Let’s be outraged that whoever did the betraying will probably get a book deal, a sitcom, trade recipes with Hoda and Kathie Lee, and soon appear on ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars.’”

I couldn't do better than that, and I've tried.

Let's not forget about the "rappers" and the typical street folks. From what I read, the only thing that Sterling said was that he did not like or care to associate with black people.

He didn’t mention Al Sharpton, who once incited a riot that led to at least one fatality, but he did lay some blame on Sterling’s gold-digger girlfriend. By the way, a photo of either Don S or his girlfriend completely ruins titillating thoughts of infidelity for me. Thanks a lot, a-holes.

Both Sterling and his girl-friend are pathetic.

She, a gold-digger with her unctuous and fake “honey” and “sweetie” and acceptance of his racism (she herself being part black) to keep the cash flowing.

He an old fool in his dotage, seemingly regressing to childhood with his whining and simplistic racism and obvious hypocrisy, playing the pathetic game of lying to himself about his age because he is able to buy a sexually attractive girlfriend.

...and he really has the numbers to back it up. Unlike many of the players of the past, in his prime, he would be an absolutely formidable player even today. And...I’ve seen him, and he has a GREAT sense of humor, although you might find this hard to believe.

What I find exceptionally disgusting about this entire ugly incident, is that that the rich white liberal jerk loathes the people who are working hard and making money for him, while being having laurels bestowed upon him by his false bought-and-paid for admirers and enablers, namely, the NAACP.

And he didn’t mention Nets part owner Jay-Z who wore a racist medallion to a Nets game. I can’t recall the media getting too upset about that. But overall a decent article by A-J who was not the most likable person when he was younger. As a lifetime resident of Wisconsin, I remember his reaction to being selected by Milwaukee was that he’d been drafted by farmers.

I think he's written 10 or 11 books over the course of his life, including several about historical matters that have nothing to do with basketball. I was surprised to find these among the books to his credit:

A Season on the Reservation: My Sojourn with the White Mountain Apaches, with Stephen Singular (2000)

Brothers in Arms: The Epic Story of the 761st Tank Battalion, WWII's Forgotten Heroes, with Anthony Walton (2004)

So, here the NFL players, and the NFL “leadership” and the so-called “black leaders” are castigating an owner because of his racist remarks, and no doubt because of his racist feelings.

Yet, the NFL players and the “black leaders”, never fail to mention that, the NFL is made up of about 80% black players. If the tables were switched and the players were 80% white, they’d be screaming “racism” against the composition of the league, and attempts at “affirmative action” to get more blacks into the league would have occurred decades ago.

The only reason that the NHL is mostly white and no charges of racism haven’t been lodged, is because there aren’t enough blacks (or Hispanics) interested in the game.

Racism is something that democrats and liberals “perfected”, and now they’re using it to win favor from the “victims”. Yet, the owner of the Clippers is a democrat, which just goes to show that, if the conversations had not been taped and made public, the latest accusations against a democrat owner would not have been aired. It’s all a matter of being proactive and making sure that there is no backlash against democrats for not having taken out Sterling a long time ago.
