Oprah Winfrey is joining with entertainment mogul David Geffen and Oracle Corp. chief executive Larry Ellison in hopes of buying the National Basketball Association’s Los Angeles Clippers. The future ownership of the Clippers is in question after team owner Donald Sterling was banned for life from the league on Tuesday by NBA commissioner Adam Silver. The ban was in response to a recording of racist comments that the league said were made by Mr. Sterling, who acknowledged it was his voice on the tape, according to Mr. Silver.

She’s as bad as Sterling. Or worse.
If I were Sterling, I would just give ownership to my son and shoot the middle finger at Magic, Oprah and the rest of the racist gotcha crowd.
It’s possible, but I suspect this is more Oprah Winfrey grandstanding. She’d have to scrape together... what?... like a billion? That’s not chump-change even for somebody as wealthy as her thigh-ness. That would take a financial re-organization of her assets that would take months, or even a year, before she could execute the purchase.
Maybe Sterling or the NBA would agree in principle to a sale within a year. That’s possible... But near-term? No way.
Sterling took the bait. Stupid is...as stupid does.

If 20 owners agree the NBA can strip Sterling of his ownership and run the Clippers until they sell them. I assume Sterling would then get the money but you never know. In any case they're not going to let the Clippers go at fire-sale prices because that would drag the value of their franchises down. They'll sell them at fair market value and there will be any number of people willing to buy the team.

the dude is 80, he just needs to hand ownership over to his children, and this issue is over.
Closer to half that, and she's worth close to $3 billion alone. If she and Geffen and Ellison are working together they could buy the whole NBA.
But in this economy, it may go for bargain basement prices anyway.
And I think the guy that runs the evil racist Clippers organization also wants the Clippers.

More confirmation it was a setup. I wouldn’t doubt if Oprey paid the hooker to make the recordings.
