Pennsylvania police officers no longer need a warrant to search a citizen’s vehicle, according to a recent state Supreme Court opinion.
The high court’s opinion, released Tuesday, is being called a drastic change in citizens’ rights and police powers.

Great for certain situations in which drugs, drug paraphernalia, weapons, etc. present probable cause, but, how many times will this lead to imagined or manufactured probable cause that wouldn't pass the smell test. In today's environment of increased government & police power, & the evolving militarization of police departments across the country, how much easier does this make it for a police officer to cross the line?
The decision doesn't prevent an officer from still asking for a consent search.
Also, as a non-lawyer, I was surprised that this was a state decision & not already decided at the federal level as a 4th amendment issue.

I wuz recently stopped for speeding. The cop stayed well back of the B-pillar while getting the "papers" and conducting the "interrogation".
Fortunately, I was eventually free to go...

Hidden rationale - the judges are tired of being bothered with so many requests for warrants, and they just rubberstamp them anyway.

How so? I’ve actually denied consent for a search in the past. I firmly believe in the process of presenting PC to a judge to obtain a warrant.
I’m very concerned that this is over the edge of the slippery slope.
