Cochran Can't Defend Record in Debate with McDaniel

Club for Growth Action today released a new statewide TV and radio buy that criticizes Senator Thad Cochran for refusing to accept debate invitations from multiple Mississippi TV outlets. The ad suggests that Senator Cochran won’t debate fiscally conservative primary challenger Chris McDaniel because Cochran’s record is filled with “bailouts, tax hikes, trillions in debt, and pay raises for himself.” The ad buy is six-figures and starts running tomorrow on broadcast and cable throughout Mississippi.

“After five decades in Washington, Thad Cochran can’t defend his record to the people of Mississippi, and now he wants a seventh term?” said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. “What’s Thad Cochran scared of? Is he worried that Mississippi voters might reject his record of debt limit increases, bailouts, tax hikes and pay raises? Is he afraid that Mississippi voters might realize he’s been there too long? Is Thad Cochran concerned that there is a clear contrast between State Senator Chris McDaniel’s proven conservative record and Cochran’s own record of supporting big government since the 1970s?”

“Mississippi TV stations and the rest of the media should turn up the heat on Thad Cochran’s campaign. Voters are entitled to a debate between the major candidates for the United States Senate, and it’s sad that Mississippi’s senior Senator has chosen instead to hide behind his handlers and avoid the tough questions. Mississippi deserves better,” added Chocola.

You need to know the difference between waiving the white flag and recognizing the order of battle. But then again, you probably never heard of the “Order of Battle”. Go back to eating your Pringles.

There’s no downside to charging this hill…..your point about the order of battle assumes there is an opportunity cost to fighting Cochran…..there is none that I see.

I’ve heard of the “Order of Battle”. And I’ve also heard about people who retreat because they are too cowardly to fight.

Cochran may not be mentally capable of participating in a debate. The Haley Machine is running a zombie campaign for a candidate who does want to or is too cognitively impaired electioneer. Putting him on stage with a younger, sharper, challenger will only amplify his age and possible senility.
