N4T Investigators: Rogue Mexican Army troops crossing the line

SASABE, SONORA - Has a unit of Mexican Army soldiers who patrol right on the Arizona border gone rogue?

This small group has attacked U.S. citizens, and even challenged U.S. federal agents within the U.S. A News 4 Tucson investigation into the dangerous world of rogue soldiers in mexico's military.

In January, soldiers from this lonely outpost of the Mexican Army drew their guns on U.S. Border Patrol agents just 50 yards into the United States. Then in March, they opened fire on Javier Jose Rodriguez, a young Tucson man visiting family in Sásabe when he was driving around the town early on a Saturday morning after drinking beers with friends. Rodriguez was shot in the arm and in the side, he spent three weeks at University of Arizona Medical Center.

The United States' reaction has been tepid, angering people who live and patrol along the Arizona border. U.S. Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) revealed details of the January encounter between soldiers from this base and the Border Patrol. In a letter to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Coburn said a lone agent encountered two Mexican soldiers 50 yards inside the U.S. The agent and the soldiers drew their weapons; the soldiers carried G-3 rifles.

"From what I understand, this has happened hundreds of times before," says Sylvia Longmire, a border security analyst whose recent book, Border Insecurity, details the challenges and failings of some Homeland Security operations along the Arizona-Sonora border. The soldiers told the agent they'd gotten lost while pursuing a drug smuggler.

"However, I believe there was some confusion as to whether that's what the Mexican Army was doing because there was no evidence found by the Border Patrol of any drug smugglers in the area," Longmire said.

“Who cares about the Mexican army invading the US?”

As long as they wear their seat belts...

Where’s Harry Reid? Doesn’t Harry Reid condemn this act of aggression??? Aren’t we a nation of laws that must be enforced??? Isn’t a Mexican invasion a violation of our laws??? Certainly Reid is planning something to address this.

transfer of drugs between two 18-wheelers.

Call the state patrol or stop at a scale and inform the guys there. They’ll chase them down and enjoy doing it.

We paid 50 million in gold to Mexico for most of west, then more for Gadsen purchase. Return it? Why?

Sásabe is in Arizona. This story's byline is "SASABE, SONORA"

Oops! It's called "El Sásabe" in Sonara, I assumed they meant the border town on the Arizona side...a follow up reveals Slightly more detail: "After Rodrigues Amaya was shot, he opened the driver’s door of the truck and fell down. He asked his friends to find his father, who then took him to the Sasabe Port of Entry. There, Customs and Border Protection officers performed first aid until the helicopter arrived."

From which we may infer the guy is a US Citizen, but he must have been in Mexico just a short distance from the US, in El Sásabe, which of course is typically shortened to just "Sásabe", which is also the name of the Arizona town just a short distance over the border (few 100 yards). Technically the same town as far as the locals are concerned...except for the annoying border crossing.

As for visiting Mexico, it's off the list indefinitely. Maybe if they offer reciprocity for US State CHL?

The reality is Mexico is retaking the South West.
Im not trying to be provictict it the reality..What was the USA is crumbling ..

its best to grasp this truth so we control and create what comes after..

Because ...while the power in DC that be that seem to be facilitating the USA crumbling “change”...it does not necessarily have to change as they assume..

Them leaving the door open for Mexico also leave it open for locals to step up..

The USA was built on a decentralized concept DC types forget that..they think if the Federal or Top leaders defers that country falls. This is typical of leftest that have a overblown idea of how necessary the are and we are all children..we can't survive with out them vs the truth is that we will step up one they get out of the way

But truth is the fed defer the states step up..if the States defer the counties step up..if the counties defer the local people step up... The USA was build by an association of self responsible free men..not the silly children that left wants people to be so then can play big mommy

Seems this has been happening on a semi-regular basis for years.

Sasabe is on both sides of the border.

It’s a Port of Entry with a US Post Office, but the bulk of the Sasabe residents live in Sonora, MX.

Yeah, I reported it. They were in no particular hurry to get there and didn’t seem all that interested in the details.

Me and my three hand guns were no match so I didn’t try it.

Yes, that’s the spirit that sent people West across the pond and farther West to the Pacific. The problem is that the Left has created an entire class who are dependent on government handouts and who know nothing of hardship or self-reliance. Those people don’t have the slightest clue how to defend themselves, let alone a nation.

From my truck in the parking lot, I watched a very large transfer of drugs between two 18-wheelers. Armed men were watching from a stand of Mesquite nearby. They weren’t trying very hard to hide.

Reason #287 why I've never been within 300 miles of the Mexican border and never will *go* within that distance of it for the rest of my life.Although I *have* been to Long Beach and Dallas...don't know how far they are from the border.

Dallas is about eight hours from the border, unless you drive like I do. In that case, it’s about six. ;p

Sounds kind of like Laredo & Nuevo Laredo on the Texas-Mexico border.

Send a couple of Navy SEAL teams down there to have a little prayer meeting with them. :-)

These moves by the Mexican troops (unlikely “rogue”) may be inspired by Putin’s moves and of course Obama’s weakness in the face thereof.
