Democratic candidate for governor Brett Hulsey plans to hand out white Ku Klux Klan-style hoods to Wisconsin Republicans as they gather for their annual convention Friday to highlight what he says are their racist policies.
Hulsey, a state representative from Madison who is white, came into the state Capitol press room on Thursday to show off a hood he says he made with his daughter’s sewing machine using curtain material he purchased for $1.
“It’s a Wisconsin Republican Party hat,” Hulsey said. “And people can interpret it any way they want.”
When asked whether he was serious, trying to be funny or provocative, Hulsey answered: “All of the above.” …

Their objective was to allow the Democrat party to retake control over the southern states.
They were successful. It took over 100 years for the Republican party to be competitive in those states.

Actually, they were. The Conscience Whigs were, at least. Cotton Whigs became Democrats. The Whig party collapsed effectively with the 1854 elections, just when the GOP was being organized.

Someone just needs to hang out right after the guy and hand out sharpies to inscribe “Courtesy of the Democrat Party” on them and then leave them on the street.
Somebody’s going to want to deck this jerk when he shoves a Klan hood at them, so count on him having bodyguards.
The Sharpie suggestion works: write “courtesy of the Democratic Party” on the hoods, then scatter them about.
