CARY After a volunteer shift at her childrens school Thursday, Stacey McKown stood outside an early voting site distributing what she calls a conservative voters guide.
Like her red T-shirt and button, the flier says vote for Greg Brannon in the U.S. Senate race.
The 43-year-old accountant, who says she budgets her limited time like her money, started volunteering for the Republicans campaign in September, averaging a few hours a week, making phone calls to voters and mailing fundraising letters.
McKown didnt help a Republican candidate in 2012 but felt drawn to Brannons brand of conservative politics one critics consider polarizing and detrimental to his electability.
Hes a conservative, she said outside the Cary polling location. And I think we as a country need to go back to the conservative principles our country was founded on. Weve gotten too far away from the Constitution, and thats why we are seeing a decline in the country.
More than the other GOP challengers, Brannons campaign is relying on activists and volunteers like McKown. From a dozen offices across the state, the campaign says hundreds are working polling locations and phone banks to turn out supporters.
FreedomWorks, a national tea party organizer based in Washington that endorsed Brannon, is helping to coordinate hundreds more who have distributed 70,000 door hangers, 22,000 yard signs and 4,000 bumper stickers to boost the campaign, spokeswoman Jackie Bodnar said.
Its unbelievable the level of dedication people are putting into this effort, she said.
Brannon, a Cary obstetrician, appeared by phone on Glenn Becks radio program Thursday but didnt hold any announced campaign events. None Wednesday either. His campaign said he had a full roster of patients.

Well, I early voted for him yesterday.
None of the others in my family could as they are all D’s or L’s.
All of us will be voting against Hagan in November.
Were the polls busy for Early Voting or is the turn-out dismal? Low voter turn-out usually benefits the Conservatives.
I wonder if Bevin in KY and McDaniel in MS are getting this kind of grass-roots support?
No line inside - I walked right in - but lots of D’s outside.
Lots of competitive local races this year and their supporters were active outside..
Jeb backing Tillis would seal the deal with Brannon for me.
Good. I’m glad there are local races on the Dem ballot. That will keep them from voting in the GOP Primary.
Is this the guy who lost a fraud suit?
That is good.
You know; that whole law-suit thing has concerned me. I’ve been asking people what the outcome was and have not heard a thing. Even did a Google Search..... nothing. Did he lose the law-suit? Either way, it will be a liability for him if he makes it to the General Election. I was rooting for Connor, but, it looks like he will not be in the “top two”.
