THERE IS A REASON WHY OBAMA”S PREESENCE was important.

US Policy treated Libya as a sovereign nation.

Only the president could authorize US military force
for the rescue of Benghazi because of the sovereign Libya status.

And the president absented himself so he would not have top make that order so close to his “re-election.” Simply because it would be an admission of failure of his poilicies.As a result 4 good men died to get Obama “re-elect6ed.” Hardly a fair trade of lives.

CDRAFRICOM does not have the authority for cross border operations into Libya. The only person with that authority is POTUS. SECDEF or SECSTATE can recommend yes to X Border OPS and that is all.

When a time sensitive situation like this occurs the decision maker (Read POTUS) must be available to give the order to go no go. In this case, the CDRAFRICOM could just stand by, continue to evaluate the situation, take necessary steps to have one or more of his component forces ready to launch or already enroute, and pray that Obama might take a decision on his way to Las Vegas or wherever the hell he was that night.

Air Force One has all the comms necessary to VTC with the Regional Combatant CDR, (Read: CDRAFRICOM) be briefed on a recommended COA, and (oh my God!!!!!)actually make a decision.

One thing has puzzled me about that photo in the Situation Room. Beside Ø looking slightly out of proportion to the others, why was he NOT at the head of the table instead of that general? Isn’t that seat for the CinC? One reason is that the general was doing something Ø couldn’t do, which isn’t a stretch given Ø can’t do anything. I just hope and pray that Gowdy doen’t go soft on this. He needs to go after all concerned like a super hungry pit bull going after a steak.
