Ted Cruz: US Must Be 'Voice of Freedom'

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has urged the Obama administration to be the “outspoken voice for freedom” and use the power of the United States to take a leadership role in foreign affairs.

During a conference to launch the Wall Street Journal’s Capital Journal Daybreak newsletter, the GOP senator said the U.S. should have been more forceful in voicing its support of Ukraine against Russian aggression before President Vladimir Putin ordered his troops to invade Crimea.

He said, “I think there is a big difference between not wanting us to play role of the world’s policeman and not wanting to send in military to try to produce democratic utopians in distant lands, neither of which are tasks for which the military is particularly well suited for nor is it I think their job.”

He continued, “I think it is a mistake to confuse war weariness with an unwillingness of the American people to defend our national security. There’s a big difference between that and believing that America should not be an outspoken voice for freedom.

“For example I think we should be far more outspoken supporting what is going on in Venezuela. I think that the American people understand and respect the power of the United States’ leadership in the world.”

Stating that “no reasonable person wants to see direct military conflict with Russia,” Cruz also said that the U.S. must help to defend other countries in Eastern Europe against Russian aggression.

“We have to reassure our allies,” he said. “I think we should go forward with installing the anti-ballistic missile batteries in eastern Europe, the Czech Republic and Poland that administration

So do as we say and not as we do?

We could use some freedom here in America.

Kinda hard to do that when America is on the express lane to totalitarian socialism itself.

Yup, and for the record, I think Ted is dead wrong on this one. Freedom is going down the craphole right here in my own country - Let the EU handle what is really their dog and their fight if they are truly afraid of the Russians taking back Ukraine. In this real world, you only get to keep what you are willing to fight for.

Ted, let’s fix our own house first, as Jesus so aptly said “Pluck the beam out of your own eye before trying to pluck the tooth pix out of your brothers eye.

Let’s get us back to a govt of the people, by the people and for the people before we worry about ending communism in other communist oligarchys.

Hey, ted...how about you do something about the freedom we’re losing here and let Europe deal with things in their own back yard.

Actually, both can be done instead of the head-in-the-sand Libertarian approach that is a failure everytime it is tried.

Ted is completely right on this issue and his approach.

And as President, I am sure he will fight for freedom first here, and then abroad.

Nothing about what he has said in context would lead a sane person to believe otherwise.

From the article:

“We have to reassure our allies,” he said. “I think we should go forward with installing the anti-ballistic missile batteries in eastern Europe, the Czech Republic and Poland that administration...”

Ted doesn’t sound a whole lot different to me on this matter. Wishing don’t make it so.

So you have a problem with this?

I am not a Libertarian by any stretch - a classical liberal, would better fit if you must label me.

Yes, I have a problem with that. If you haven’t noticed, this country of ours is bankrupt. Trouble is being stirred by OUR SIDE - that is clear to anyone with eyes to see. Who is wagging the Dog? More war, more debt, more suffering. I can see the Oligarchs just clapping for the next Encore. The EU is supposed to be all that and a bag of chips, so why aren’t they doing the heavy lifting and spending their money to buy the guns/missiles/whatever for their neighbors?
