CONSOL Energy announced in a press release Friday that they will be reducing the operating schedule at the Buchanan Mine, resulting in the lay-offs of 188 employees.
"CONSOL Energy has announced it will reduce the operating schedule at its Buchanan Mine in southwest Virginia to two production shifts per day effective immediately.
The announcement is in keeping with first quarter earnings results reported earlier this week, and previous guidance issued which noted that the company was prepared to exert continued production discipline, as needed, to align with current global met coal market conditions. The action will result in the lay-off of 188 employees, including 39 salaried employees and 149 hourly employees. Employees were notified of the operating schedule change earlier today. The mine will operate with two production shifts per day, down from three. Third shift operations will be limited to maintenance activities.

How do you know they are not Democrat voters?
More REAL hardworking Americans taking a hit from the Obama regime machine.
Obama hates people.
I believe coal prices are down. They closed the coal power plant in Glen Lyn Va
Because this is my home area and they are my friends and family.
The coal prices are down because Obama’s has been deliberately destroying the market and driving them down to unsustainable levels.
See the map. Click it if you like to see the source. The deeper the blue (this map has it right), the less the percent of votes for ObaMao. Notice how deep blue SW Virginia is.
This, of course, does not guarantee that a handful of fools in this group might have voted for him. But it does show how coal country feels about him.
Great map! Thanks for posting. That explains a lot.
Thanks, Obama voters.
Yet more jobs lost because of you.
“Thanks, Obama voters.
Yet more jobs lost because of you.”
Not so sure that these people were exactly enthusiastic supporters of Democrats BEFORE coal got killed.
Buckhanon puts out Met Coal. This layoff has nothing to do with Coal-Fired Power Plants being shut down.
I live in WV as well... It is a union slavery state so most of our jobs are union. Our 2010 elections were gun grabber joe and all the others were dem except one house and one state senate.
The saddest stories are the families and friends who continue to vote for a party that has a stated goal of taking their jobs.
Same story as the minorities who continue to vote dem and suffer immensely for it.
Here in my neck of the woods it’s union and dem. I see glimmers of rebellion but the numbers aren’t stronger than the dem tradition.
In such a heavy gun lovers haven I bet they still vote Manchin the gun grabber every time.
