Goodlatte Tells Hollywood: Immigration 'Grand Bargain' Coming
breitbart.com ^ | 5/2/14 | Matthew Boyle

Posted on 05/02/2014 2:36:16 PM PDT by cotton1706

House Judiciary Committee chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) said Friday at Hollywood’s “Creativity Conference” in Washington that there is a “grand bargain” in the works on amnesty.

ABC News’s Rick Klein Tweeted that Goodlatte told ABC reporter Jon Karl at the event that he is “still searching for ‘grand bargain’ on status of undocumented immigrants,” and that Goodlatte does “believe it will happen.”

Klein noted the comments came at the second annual “Creativity Conference,” an event hosted by the Motion Picture Association of America. The MPAA, which is run by former Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT), is hosting the event alongside Microsoft at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.

Microsoft has lobbied for amnesty, and endorsed the Senate’s “Gang of Eight” immigration bill last year. Its headquarters is in the district of House GOP conference chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, who recently suggested there is a plan to bring immigration bills to the floor by August that would provide “legal status” to millions of illegal aliens.

Goodlatte’s role on immigration is crucial. His committee has jurisdiction over the matter.

Goodlatte, however, would not predict during the interview when such amnesty legislation would pass. "My job isn’t to predict when it’s going to happen. My job is to build the consensus that we need to have immigration reform,” Goodlatte said.

Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), an opponent of amnesty aligned with Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Tweeted in response to Goodlatte that he was cutting a deal with President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. "A 'grand bargain' w/ Reid & WH = amnesty," Vitter Tweeted.

I think we’ve heard this crap before.

Remember, almost anything out of the media is meant to demoralize us.

Don’t pay attention...keep your eyes on the objective.

Move forward!

I'll suggest a good "bargain" for you, Congressman.

1. Build a real wall on the border
2. Make the Border Patrol understand their job is to stop illegal crossings.
3. Clamp down on employers of illegals.
4. When illegals are caught through traffic stops, criminal arrest, or confession, put them on a bus to the border, open the door and say, "Vaya Con Dios".

Boehner must be out of the Speaker’s chair before the lame duck session.

Is that even possible?

The republicans will not approve amnesty prior to the election unless they do not want to win. (And it’s possible that they do not want to win.)

The lame duck remains their best shot, though. Boehner can ignore the Hastert Rule, pull in democrat votes, and then send it to the Senate where Harry Reid will extend the use of the nuke option if he has to.

Every time I hear those words, “grand bargain,” I’m reminded of just how full of themselves DC politicians are. Where did this phrase enter into the political lexicon? It should be lit up in neon, just beneath a giant “BOHICA.” It never means anything good for taxpayers.

The RINOs are sensing that they can pass amnesty yet still retain the House and possibly win the Senate.

The Democrats’ real ace in the hole is the GOPe. They are compromised beyond redemption or are actually working for the enemy.

Sounds like this prick needs an attitude adjustment.

The commies must have something on him.

This is where right wing media can be effective.

Find the skeletons in this MF's closet and destroy him.

Goes far beyond opinion.

Free elections, majority rule be damned.

California Prop 187 where the feds declared a free election illegal and burned the ballots.

The results of that corrupt government intrusion can now be seen coast to coast...

I am all for what you are saying here, but what are you going to do with the chinese, africans, arabs, brazilians, south americans that are coming across. Mexico does not want them back.

You have to stop them at the Rio

Heck when I was chasing illegals down south Texas we even caught a guy from the Balkans

you can't bargain with someone who wont uphold their end of the bargain. And Obama has shown that he WONT under any circumstances uphold/enforce the law.

And since the congress is not willing to force him to enforce the law, no bargain is possible.

It is seppuku, both for GOP and the country as a whole. We do need to win over minority voters, but not by throwing out the rules and trying to out pander the Dems.

I think we’ve heard this crap before.

Yes we have... the last really grand bargain, otherwise known as the Simpson-Mazzoli Act, was in 1986. We all know how that turned out, and that was with a Republican President who followed the law, unlike the current 'Rat resident who only intends to break the law.

They might very well “sense” that they can double cross us in the lame duck part of this term but any that do can expect maximum grief when they get home——expecially if they lied thru their teeth about being against it before they snuck it in. Seems like it might be worth a “don’t come home” bumper sticker?

The ‘86 amnesty deal helped make California a permanent Democrat stronghold. The new one coming will do that to the entire country.

-—kind of like double crossing my Cherokee cousins back in 1839 didn’t work out for all the double crossers. This will be quite a circle if it turns out the gummint took land away from my cousins to give it to Mexicans? And the heirs of the white guys who done it wind up surrounded by the same Mexicans?

what are you going to do with the chinese, africans, arabs, brazilians, south americans that are coming across.

Drop them off at the same gate.
They'd be Mexico's problem whether they want them back or not.

Maybe with enough of that Mexico will tighten up its borders as well (dream on, I know).

It only requires 19 Republican votes to pass Amnesty in the House.

Democrats have 199 votes.

That means almost every Republican RINO can vote “NO” on Amnesty for political cover, but Amnesty would still pass.

All Boehner has to do is find 19 GOP Congressmen who plan to retire or who live in safe center-left Districts.

Boehner and McConnell could put an Amnesty bill on Obama’s desk tomorrow morning if they wanted to.

These GOP supported Amnesty headlines arrive once or twice a week now, and Republican denials become more and more feeble and unconvincing.

We are going to be sold out by our own leadership, and sooner rather than later.

Re: “what are you going to do with the chinese, africans, arabs, brazilians, south americans that are coming across.”

Almost all the people who come across the southern border are Central Americans who were previously deported from the USA.

The rest of the Illegals - about 50% - just fly here with valid paperwork.

Then, they never leave.
