Bipartisan Bill Would Stop Tax-Cheating IRS Employees from Getting Bonuses
Conservative Tribune ^ | May 3 2014 | Conservative Tribune

It’s past time we abolished the IRS and tried something else. This agency has been nothing but trouble since its inception.

We’ve seen how it can be used to bully and harass the opponents of those in power. It actively went after conservative groups for their political participation in an attempt by the Obama administration to rig the election. It did so under tremendous political pressure from Obama and Democrats in Congress who were alarmed by conservative groups’ political spending after Citizens United.

It’s ironic that the agency which is supposed to keep a watchful eye on us is often the very one whose employees use their position to keep from paying taxes.

A recent report by a watchdog group produced evidence to show that the IRS had given $2.8 million in bonuses to employees with disciplinary problems, including tax evasion.

This is outrageous, and there is a bipartisan effort in the Senate right now to deal with it. Sens. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO) are sponsoring a bill that would prevent federal employees from receiving bonuses if they have tax or disciplinary issues.

This is definitely one bipartisan effort we should all be able to get behind. It’s obvious that the government employees that we trust to be honest on a daily basis shouldn’t be rewarded for their bad behavior. These people are charged with keeping the rest of us honest – we can’t let them think that they don’t have to play by the rules and can undermine the rule of law. Good for Sens. Ayotte and McCaskill for dealing with this.

It sounds good on the surface, but anything that allows the IRStapo to extend its tendrils further than they are already is bad news.

Way long overdue but will never happen. The entire Washington establishment likes to enslave Americans. It is the most corrupt organization in the Federal Government.

I'm thinking more and more, why limit that idea to the IRS ?

What is sad about this story is that the Ophonybama Administration just keeps giving us reason after reason to replace the income tax with the FairTax and abolish the IRS.

One has to wonder how much abuse We the People will take?

The mind reels at the very concept that there would have to be a Federal Law that Federal employees may not receive bonuses if they have less than perfect records, let alone failure to pay taxes.

As a matter of fact, how is a "business" that is bleeding about 40% red-ink justifying giving out bonuses at all? Given that they can't make their institutions more profitable [and probably can't make them any more efficient, either] why do they even receive bonuses in good times?

Hell, right now I would add Dept. of Just-Us. and DHS, BATF, DEA, Energy, Education, and HHS, I might even be willing to include agriculture too.

What’s the problem with withholding any tax debt from their pay? Or better yet a law that says IRS Employee (or any Gubmit folks) owe tax debt longer than one year, you get the boot?

How absurd that such a bill is even needed.

It’s the very epitome of a conflict of interest out in the real world, like having embezzlers working in a bank. How do you suppose these IRS workers have avoided having their pay garnished, bank accounts seized or liens on property? It doesn’t just roll on unnoticed en masse for the private sector. Only in DC. Politicians and IRS employees seem to get a pass. Quite the puzzler, that one is.
