Heroin in a Capsule? lawmakers step up fight against FDA
Fox ^ | 5/3/14 | barnini

State and federal lawmakers are working ...painkiller Zohydro ER permanently shelved, even as the head of the Food and Drug Administration defends the agency’s decision to approve the powerful opiate some critics call “heroin in a capsule.” Since its approval in Oct.... has come under scrutiny from members of Congress, state attorneys general, doctors and addiction specialists who have worked to block the pill from being sold in the U.S.

FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg strongly defends the agency’s approval, arguing that Zohydro’s benefits outweigh the negative consequences. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., say the agency should rescind its approval of the painkiller. Manchin, whose home state leads the nation in prescription overdoses and abuse, has worked with New York Sen. Chuck Schumer to overturn the approval. The lawmakers have called on outgoing Health and Human Services chief Kathleen Sebelius to force the FDA to rescind its approval, citing the alleged danger of the drug and as well as the growing abuse of prescription drugs in the country. Overdoses from prescription drugs have risen steadily over the past decade and account for an estimated 16,000 deaths a year in the United States. Sens. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and Tom Coburn of Oklahoma -- have also joined the call. In March, Manchin submitted legislation, the “Act to Ban Zohydro,” which offered a 13-point argument on why the federal agency should rescind its approval. Among his complaints, ..echoed by doctors and others in the medical field, is the potential for abuse and addiction. Zohydro ER involves a powerful formula of hydrocodone, the opiate that’s the main ingredient in Vicodin. Critics argue that Zohydro’s potency makes it dangerous and open to abuse because it lacks a tamper-resistant feature which lets it be ground up, snorted or injected.

I think this current government wants people doped up so they can be controlled easily. What is given can be taken away or doled out.

Wow. That stuff must have packed quite a kick. Good for everything that ails you. One dose and you don’t care about anything anymore.

Aren't these the same idiots who whine about government interference between the patient and their doctor?

Soros is helping fund the push for legalization and there are reports everywhere that say he made his money peddling illegal drugs. There are also reports that say he also wants the U.S. stripped of it’s world police powers so the NWO can flourish with the assistance of the UN where he reportedly has contacts. I see an extreme power grab at play here and the more doped up people are the easier his job becomes. Is there any doubts as to why the U.S. is starting to look like Amsterdam (where everything goes)...

My nephew recently found a bottle like this one on a jobsite, ...

The main ingredients...The formula consisted of morphine sulphate (65 mg per fluid ounce), sodium carbonate, spirits foeniculi, and aqua ammonia. It was claimed that it was "likely to sooth any human or animal", and it effectively quieted restless infants and small children.

This is like gun control.

Some people commit murder, so they want the government to take guns away from everyone.

I seem to be reminded of a SciFi novel, I think the
name was Future Shock, about government production and
distribution of Heroin in easy to use injectors.

Just check out the case of Justina Pelletier and the DCF in MA.

Psychotropics are now the cure all.

It’s hydrocodone, without the acetaminophen like in Vicodin. It will probably save some addicts from acute liver failure.

Wouldn’t even be close the first opiate approved for prescription, fact is they’re extremely good painkillers.

This is like gun control.

Some people commit murder, so they want the government to take guns away from everyone.

It's worse. This kind of demagoguery is making thousands of people spend their final days in unspeakable agony. So that politicians can appear tough on crime.

And it's both sides. There is no hope. Wait until your time comes, and the government tracks your painkiller usage and cuts you off.

This makes me puke.

I have mixed feelings on this. When someone is in extreme pain due to cancer the only thing available is morphine. After a while it stops being effective. This drug appears to be the answer for this.
