Showdown over Ukraine sparks Cold War-style propaganda battle

WASHINGTON -- Fed up with the Russian government’s false claims early in the Ukraine crisis, the State Department issued an unusual, point-by-point takedown along with a cheeky note that said not since 19th-century novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky had the world seen such “startling Russian fiction.”

The jab didn’t seem to hurt in Moscow. A pro-Kremlin newspaper columnist mocked the Obama administration’s “excellent knowledge of Russian literature.” And an undeterred President Vladimir Putin spent the next several weeks polishing his narrative of a strong Russia standing up to Western imperialism in order to protect a vulnerable ethnic Russian population from an illegitimate, Nazi-infiltrated new Ukrainian leadership.

In retaliation, the State Department fired off a second literary-themed fact sheet: “Russian Fiction the Sequel: 10 More False Claims about Ukraine.”

Ed, food for thought:

Would you want America to join a situation like this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proposed_long-term_solutions_for_the_European_sovereign-debt_crisis

Note that under EU agreements, the European Commission has a lot of latitude to force things on member nations.

Imagine just giving up the national sovereignty of America, so Congress would forced to pass laws by a foreign body.

Not in favor of that although we have a government
that has went foreign on its duties and treatment of
our own country.

We should just help Ukraine get free of Russia
and trade and deal with EU and join if
they want.I know alot are afraid of austerity measures
by EU. But you know if EU sent the commie, pinko,
greens home to putin(or jailed them) open up enrgy production, Dropping prices like a rock the place would
boom and people could afford to live.Needs to
happen here in US also.

Ukraine has only a quarter the GDP per person than
Greece, but still is a better place. Why, they produce
stuff reasonable costs. Open energy, deflate costs,
the whole place booms, and the russian oligarchs
so broke they couldn’t raid a henhouse..Ed

Odessa Fire:... Watch how it happens as Madian thugs come rushing into the tent area and setting fire...taken from a highrise building...... Shows Anti-Kiev people trying to defend the Trade Building Entrance...Maindan then throwing Cocktails into the building.

Also interesting is Maiden protesters have admitted this when they tried explaining that Yes, they were throwing cocktails into the Trade Center but then they said they helped the people after....Which of course we have videos of them making the burn victims crawl on the ground and kicking them.

BTW while the building was on fire there are photos of the Maidan thugs with their guns pulled and firing at the people attempting to escape as they hung out the windows.
