More than 30 overdose on synthetic marijuana in a day in Dallas

by REBECCA LOPEZ Bio | Email | Follow: @rlopezwfaa WFAA Posted on May 2, 2014 at 10:51 PM Updated Friday, May 2 at 11:18 PM Related: More K2 overdose cases reported in Texas DALLAS -- It's cheap, easy to buy, and sold over the counter, but it is also highly addictive and dangerous.

“We don't know what they are putting into these synthetic drugs," said Dr. James d’Etienne of Baylor Medical Center.

And that's the problem.

People are buying and smoking K2, a synthetic drug that is supposed to mimic marijuana. Within the last 24 hours, more than 30 people overdosed on it in Dallas and had to be hospitalized. Twenty went to Baylor Medical Center and 10 went to Parkland.

"Several of them came in with similar symptoms of psychosis, altered mental status, abnormal behavior -- ranged from very sedated to an agitated state," Dr. d’Etienne said.

The patients, who ranged from teenagers to people in their mid-50s, were so sick, some had to be sedated and others had to be watched to keep them from hurting themselves.

K2 can cause people to act crazy. A former user, who asked we not use his name, told News 8, "I would describe the withdrawal from K2 like night sweats [and] waking up with overwhelming anxiety."

In this rash of overdoses, everyone was treated and released and there were no deaths, but increasingly, K2 is difficult to regulate because the manufacturers keep changing the formula and ingredients. Experts say they are making it more addictive and deadly.

First of all it's not marijuana.

It tell you in the article it's legal to sell because they keep changing the formula.

"Welcome to Obama's America."

Actually, Obama's America is viewed from 40,000 feet while cruising in style on AF1, heading off to another vacation. He cares no more about the people in America than he did about his ambassador in Benghazi.

Overdose? You mean, there is a “dose” for recreational drugs?

I figure if you’re stupid enough to do something like this you should have to suffer through the OD and withdrawal at home.

Got bath salts for a gift.

Almost fell asleep in the tub...and I would have drowned because no one was around.

So now I winch myself to the toilet to keep my head above water. ;-)

I don’t know what it is. I am mystified as to why someone would ingest something like that. Isn’t real pot still pretty cheap? I haven’t seen any myself in 30 years, but if they can find some weird synthetic goop why can’t they find a joint?

Maybe they have experienced brain damage over the years of drug use and now they haven't the ability to do much cognitive thinking. Maybe all they have left is memory and emotional control. Their "mentis" in now "non compos." Two out of three isn't bad, not enough but not bad.

Saint Darwin works in obvious ways.

Start with the Standard Distribution (bell-shaped) curve, while measuring self-destruction. By definition, half of Americans are more inclined to self-destruction.

Of all Americans, 17% are strongly inclined to self-destruction, and in that 17%, 5% are determined to destroy themselves.

While legal, religious and cultural efforts might incline these “D” students to eke by and not destroy themselves, the “F” students are so bound and determined to destroy themselves that the best we can ever hope for is that they don’t drag others down with them. Which they might be inclined to want to do.

Apparently they have difficulty writing the laws to be general enough to cover the various formulations that keep getting invented.

There’s been an epidemic of these cases here in Mobile. In fact, if I’m not mistaken, they arrested a couple of guys last week and I think they’re originally from TX.

Irrelevant - everyone knows that if one is good, then 6 or 7 has to be GREAT....

Even if they include a "suggested dose", the old axiom, "You can make anything fool-proof, you just can't make it damn-fool-proof" comes into play.

Not only is it not pot, it is made in a lab somewhere and looks closer to oregano than pot. Legalize the real thing, tax it and get over it. Pot is nothing compared to booze or what drs hand out for a backache.

Initially they were Jwh-018 and some other Cannabis THC derivatives - they banned those. Now they’re basically spraying any kind of psychotropic chemical they can find that’s not banned on to some oregano and selling it.

Of course K2, is available in Colorado. The black market for pot is stronger than ever, because they can sell with impunity. Cops arent going after them and they're cheaper with no overhead. This was never about medicinal use. 221 sickened by K2 in Colorado: http://denver.cbslocal.com/2013/12/12/cdc-221-sickened-by-synthetic-marijuana-in-colorado/ The deception going on with the drug legalization push is Soros funded propaganda that would make Goebbels proud. Sadly these are American children being exposed to a danger that has wiped out civilizations. Soros has been funding and pushing drug legalization since the 90's. heroin was always a part of that plan. Apparently he needs to desensitize the American psyche a little more for that to be accepted. http://www.aim.org/special-report/the-hidden-soros-agenda-drugs-money-the-media-and-political-power/ http://rt.com/news/156128-afghanistan-drugs-usa-heroin/

Apparently the cartels need to desensitize the American psyche a little more for heroin to be accepted, or just sell it in pill form and have the FDA approve it. O wait they already did that.

That K2 stuff was at epidemic proportions around here a couple of years ago, then they outlawed it in Michigan. It’s pretty nasty stuff, but if you’re going to be stupid enough to try it, hey, why should we stop you? Even after all the warnings and news reports on it, kids would still use it. I think maybe it was a good herd culler.

To continue from above statement, the problem was, kids were committing some brutal crimes while high on it. A very good kid is now in a permanent vegetative state and his mother is suffering some permanent damage, his father is dead because his bother and some friends got hopped up on the stuff and attacked the family with a baseball bat. Very, very sad story. This is why it was banned.
