Scientists race to develop farm animals to survive climate change
Los Angeles Times ^ | May 3, 2014 | By Evan Halper

When a team of researchers from the University of Delaware traveled to Africa two years ago to search for exemplary chickens, they weren't looking for plump thighs or delicious eggs.

They were seeking out birds that could survive a hotter planet.

The researchers were in the vanguard of food scientists, backed by millions of dollars from the federal government, racing to develop new breeds of farm animals that can stand up to the hazards of global warming.

I’ve asserted before, if we are actually going to experience cooling, GMO is going to be critical to saving our food supply.

The irony is if they believe in climate change and believe in evolution, the chickens should adapt by themselves.

Yes, can you say massively huge government grants? Academics in our universities are some of the biggest whores on this planet.

They’ll do a study for you, research for you, all you need do is tell them the desired outcome/conclusion.

People who participated in this scam should be arrested and tried. Certainly they’re as guilty of fraud as Bernie Madoff. Any time I’m reading something and the author mentions climate change or global warming, even in fiction or science fiction, the book hits the wall and he’s off my reading list.

First of all, they only live about a year....maybe two. They are adapted to whatever they’re born into.

Why does everyone totally ignore the good side to global warming. More farmable land. Vineyards in England!! I could put tomatoes in in April. (Except we’ve had the coldest Spring in CT since 1911!!)

I know, that doesn’t fit with the scams.

I once read a story about a man who happened upon a village where the inhabitants were all in a tizzy because, seeing the moon’s reflection in a pond, they believed that it had fallen from the sky, and were racking their brains trying to figure out how to get it out of the pond and back in its proper place. That’s what this lunacy reminds me of.

Chickens don’t need to adapt because there are already breeds of chickens that thrive in hot climates and there are breeds of chickens that thrive in cool climates.

They are spending millions trying to find a chicken you can find on your computer for free.

LOL! The cries of “GMO gotta go” will be heard echoing soon. If I remember correctly, animals are pretty good at adapting to things without any help from us. As to GMO, how many years have folks been cross pollinating? Isn’t that GMO in it’s simplest form. Tree grafting? Yup, drought and bug resistant food supplies must be a bad thing. A lot of folks only look at it as BIG CHEM making huge profits. Sigh......

You hit the nail on the head, though. 2/3 of Canada, the northern third of Asia, (roughly speaking) would be more amenable to growing warmer climate crops. Think of the resources which could be developed besides the arable (and relatively virgin) land. Unreal that anyone could be against that.

We stop at a farm on the weekends for milk and eggs. The owner told me they lost 11 brooders yesterday because the door to the coop blew open and they escaped into the "global warmth"

P.S. We still do not have leaves on the trees yet here in WI.

Someone sold the Feds a cartload of B.S. Here in Mississippi farmers deal with heat and extreme humidity which in combination is a death sentence to many animals. They are able to make a profit raising animals that are adapted to this heat and humidity. The genetics of the chicken are based in the jungles of Malaysia where they originated.

Given a choice between global warming and another Ice Age, I’ll take more heat every time.

Food grows a lot better in tropical conditions than it would under a sheet of mile-thick ice.

So crank up that global thermostat! You betcha!

"This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow, and our planet began to heal.

Welcome King Barack "Canute" Obama the Great.....

...Obama issues an Executive Order to the Sun...

....to increase it's magnetic field....

and make a good crop of sunspots before elections in 2016....

(PhysOrg.com) -- Sunspot formation is triggered by a magnetic field, which scientists say is steadily declining. They predict that by 2016 there may be no remaining sunspots, and the sun may stay spotless for several decades.

The last time the sunspots disappeared altogether was in the 17th and 18th century, and coincided with a lengthy cool period on the planet known as the Little Ice Age....and lasted 400 years.

Good luck surviving with less electricity and GE modified seeds.
