President Obama and the World
New York Times ^ | May 3, 2014 | Editorial Board

Posted on 05/04/2014 7:28:52 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Two years after winning an election in which foreign policy was barely mentioned, President Obama is being pummeled at home and abroad for his international leadership. The world sometimes seems as if it is flying apart, with Mr. Obama unable to fix it. Through a combination of a few significant missteps, circumstances beyond his control, unreasonable expectations and his maddeningly bland demeanor, Mr. Obama has opened himself to criticism that he is not articulating a strong, overarching blueprint for the exercise of American power and has not been able to bend authoritarian leaders to his will.

Still, too often, Mr. Obama’s ambitions seem in question. It does not feel as if he is exercising sufficient American leadership and power, even if he is in fact working to solve a problem. Some analysts have suggested he lacks a passion for foreign policy. Others say he has no inspiring ideological prism through which the world can understand his choices. Others say he is too resigned to the obstacles that prevent the United States from being able to control world events as easily as it may once have done. These criticisms have some truth to them, and Mr. Obama sometimes makes things worse when he deigns to explain himself.

Unable to fix it? He's the main cause for its flying apart.

This IS the Obama blueprint - We are living The Plan.

For all those limp-wristed Euro-weenies who wanted to end America's global influence, Obama is making their dreams come true.

Hope they like it because the milk has already been spilt.

“Others say he has no inspiring ideological prism through which the world can understand his choices.”

Interesting statement. Sending Churchill’s bust back to England in his first month in office seems a pretty clear statement of ideology. Enthusiastic support of the MB in Egypt, tacit support of Al Quaeda in Libya, refusal to side with students in Iran during the green revolt, actively attempting to subvert constitutional processes in Honduras so that a Marxist could take power. The list could go on and on. Anyone who cannot see a clear ideological basis for his foreign policy decisions isn’t looking very hard.

Alinskites do not know how to fight those who actually studied and use Communism or communist tactics in their governing.

And it seems like now that Obama is trying everything to make this situation go away as fast as possible. The fastest way to do that is to goad Russia into taking Ukraine, then start negotiating with Russia to lift the sanctions (Possible that Russia pays off Ukraine’s IMF/World bank debt in exchange for taking the state and making it a puppet).

Pretty obvious since the Obama administration is normally two or three steps behind in strategy...and tactics...

One would think the Obama administration gigantic arrogance would get tapped down after 5 years of complete foreign policy failures...

But still wants to grade him on a curve to maintain his "perfect 4.0 average"...

This is how slooooow the progs are, they believe that he HAS leadership skills. He wants nothing to do with leading anyone anywhere at anytime, at least not the way we have known leadership to be.
He’s more like a character at a haunted house, leaping out of the shadows screaming and howling, trying to create fear and chaos, only to slip back into the darkness, laughing, watching the scared sheep run, waiting for the next group to come along

"a combination of a few significant missteps, circumstances beyond his control, unreasonable expectations and his maddeningly bland demeanor"

"a few significant missteps"

Libya, Syria, Israel, China, Iraq, Afghanistan, China, Germany, the Koreas, and Japan is "a few"?

"circumstances beyond his control"

A real leader controls "circumstances beyond his control". Bush, Reagan, Eisenhower, Roosevelt, Lincoln, Washington, to name a few.

"unreasonable expectations"

I thought he was "the One we all were waiting for?"

"his maddeningly bland demeanor"

This used to be called "cool".
